$25000 Surgery Cost, what did you pay?

Recommended Posts

The hospital billed my insurance close to $50,000. I paid about 1400 out of pocket. If you were a cash patient the charge is $10,000 with my surgeon.

I paid about $26,000 in NJ. Yes it's a lot of money but my physical and emotional health is worth it. I had my surgery April 17 and don't regret a penny of it!

I just received my bill. Now I had complications, so it was huge! $76,000+. My insurance covered about $50,000. But I am only being billed $250.

Just got my explanation of benefits and hospital billed over $58K! I only pay max $1500 a year out of pocket and between pre op and surgery unpaid that much.

I paid about $50 in doctor appointment co pays. My insurance covered everything else 100%. They billed my insurance company 48,000 but the insurance company only paid out about 7,000.

Just depends on your insurance. I've only had to pay $250 out of pocket. Fortunately I am employed at the hospital where I had my surgery. My surgery itself was about 32,000 because of complications. I'm 3 weeks post op. Started at 320. Day of surgery (May 20th) 313. Today 295. So things are going great!

Just called my insurance to double check; Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (Massachusetts) is covering all expenses apart from the remaining $214.58 that I owe for my yearly deductible. A new life for under $250? I'll take it!

Of course, insurance doesn't cover my $500 psych workshops, but I've paid that already.

The young man who took my call made sure I understood that if I want cable T.V. in the hospital, that's my bill to pay. scratchchin.gif I think I can handle that.

Couldn't believe how much this surgery cost when I saw the amount billed to my insurance plan! (Luckily my insurance should cover all of that) Wondered what others have paid...

4500 with Dr. Almanza 25000 that's outrageous ill would have stayed a fat person if faced with that choice. They is a doctor in San Antonio that only charges 10k

Not sure what my insurance was billed yet but I have to pay $250 and that's it! I thank God because I know some people are not as fortunate.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
