Is this cheating?

Recommended Posts

You may have been joking, but I remember one person posting that she liked to lick Doritos while on the liquid diet!

Try to find things to take your mind off food and to keep your hands busy! And whatever you do, stay away from the TV (unless you have TiVo and can quickly speed through all the food commercials)!!

Good luck!

Tami

You know, I would have no interest in sucking a chicken nugget. But licking cool ranch doritos sounds good to me! :faint:

I think what helped me is knowing that this is a tool and the great thing about this surgery is that I can enjoy all of the same things I just dont take in near as much as I did.

I eat the same things and I enjoy something yummy here and there. I will at the store pick up a truffle or something like that. I just buy a single serving and know I must run it off or I must drink a Protein drink and skip a meal cause it was my choice. I am perfectly happy to do that. You are not giving up food forever just until your body heals and you can take in food.

I talked myslef into thinking I was sick and had to take in only liquids. YOu will find what works for you! The hunger changes and it does not last very long and it is not as intense as it was. A cup of broth or tea will ease it. Are you eating sugar free popscicles? Good Luck!

I'm just in a snit. I'm hungry darn it!

We had our work holiday party on day 1 of my diet and I nearly died. Yes, I know that I am being melodramatic...

I am looking forward to eating less and losing weight but right now I'm a total beast. I am being good but it is so hard with my same old stomach. :)

I absolutely understand!!! I am on day 8 of my pre-op liquid diet and had a breakdown day 5. I've had to avoid pot-luck Friday, an office Christmas party, another office party. It's been damn hard.

Sometimes I think I should have done this at another time of year, but part of me figured if I can make it through this I'll be ok the rest of the year. The other part of me dreaded how much I would gain between now and whenever I decided to do the surgery.

Not all doctors require a pre-op weight loss plan. Most who do require the diet and have done multiple surgeries do not require it in patients who do not have fatty liver. I think that is why a lot of people have to have it done.

I mean most of us get the surgery for health reasons but some people have more risk and more problems and are required to loose weight to make the surgery more safe. I think almost all doctors require a 24 hour liquid fast just to make things easier on you.

Mine required 12 hours of Clear liquids I did a full day hoping it would be easier on me!

Hey now, the day I came home from the hospital my husband was eating barbeque ribs and french fries drowned in barbeque sauce in front of me and I had to take a fry and chew it and spit it out. So, it can happen and maybe she was serious until she saw the postings. I don't think its cheating if you don't swallow it then you didn't consume any calories...right?

I have been reading that many people say the pre-op is worse than the post-op. The first 4 days of pre-op were awful. I am handling it better now. I am hoping that post-op I will not be hungry. That will be a bit of a downer if I am.

Pre-op was MUCH harder for me. I was hungry, and wanted to eat all those things I thought I'd never eat again.

Post-op, I wasn't even hungry for a couple of weeks.

Girlfriend, I had 14 days liquid diet pre-op and I can totally relate. Anybody who can sit here and tell you to exercise some self-discipline and control is not being realistic....uhmmmm, if you could do that would you really need SURGERY? If they could exercise discipline and self control over all things food related, would they need to be sliced open and have a foreign object placed in their person forever that restricts food intake? On the 11th day of my diet I was about ready to eat some cat food one morning. Praisealleuia for the people who stopped eating and never had another hunger pain or craving. I am not in that category. I will probably always be Jonesing for McD's and Popeye's, but now that I am banded, I can have the thought but not act on it.

Don't feel bad about thinking about food. Addictive behavior is going to take some work to overcome and your body is really confused about what is going on.

I cant say it gets better, but it gets easier. You can do it!

It was merely a suggestion since the "professionals" have very valid reasons for designing and instructing the pre and post op diets. And c'mon now.....you are comparing apples to oranges with the ability to exercise discipline for two weeks vs discipline for the long term of a weight loss program. When the Dr. requests that you follow the pre-op diet for two weeks in order to help make the surgery easier and safer......isn't it worth a little self discipline?

"The professionals" have probably never been on a two week liquid diet, and since the pre-op diets run the gamut between all of the many powers that be, I am not sure that even they know what is truly best. I have a friend who was banded at 450 lbs and she was on a liquid diet for ONE DAY before surgery. Her doc did not believe the fat around the liver concept. Well, my doc sure did, and I complied.

I am merely pointing out that being realistic about this whole process is helpful and if the worst thing a person does is suck on a freaking chicken nugget and spit it out, she will probably be just fine.

my 2 cents - it was me who licked the flavor off the ranch doritos! and it was me who took a bite of haluski and spit it out - TWICE! I had a horrible time with the pre-op diet - I cheated more then once - but I always tried to keep my calorie intake below 900. It was the chewing that got to me. Now I'm in my 2nd week of liquids post op and its still hard. I did the haluski and dorito thing on Saturday - and I was so afraid of hurting my band but those old food demons were really working on me.

I just think that some of the posts here sounded a little self righteous - if thats the term I'm looking for. We all have a problem with self discipline or we wouldn't be here - right? I know it was and is all for my own good but it doesn't mean I don't struggle with it from day to day, hour to hour - I definitely get my strength from fellow bandsters and hope that I never come off all self righteous but rather compasionate.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
