Do You Drink Coffee, How Much Weight Have You Lost?

Recommended Posts

Hey so I love coffee and have read tons of articles that talk about how good it is for you and for weight loss and have read tons of articles on how bad it is for you and weight loss. We VSGers bodies are a bit different so I was wondering did/does any of you drink coffee in the first 6 months and if so how much did/have you lost.

I drink coffee. Not every day. I drink a cup every other day or so. I don't crave it as much as I did before surgery. I am 13 weeks out and have lost 62 pounds.

Lol, coffee is one of those things that nobody can agree on. It has its pros & cons. Best I can tell, the biggest problem with coffee is the caffeine. Caffeine being a diuretic strips your body of valuable Water content.

The big debate is, "does the liquid content in coffee offset the the Water loss from the caffeine?". Some studies say yes, some say no.

My personal "common sense" conclusion would be something like this

De caffeinated = perfectly fine, even counts toward your daily hydration requirements

Regular(house blends)= OK. But do not count it toward your hydration goals, as the caffeine likely strips your body of as much water as the cup contains.

High caffeine(espresso, Cuban coffee, etc) = you'll need additional hydration as there is not enough water content in these to offset the caffeine.

Another thing to consider is what you add to your coffee. Sugar, cream, cocoa, caramel, etc. make sure you are accounting for all those extra calories.

I have had an iced vanilla latte (NOT sugar free) everyday for the last 20 months! I waited until I was healed (like a month to try my first one) I made my weight loss goal and have been maintaining for more than a year.

I think I started drinking coffee after the 1st month post-op. I don't really like coffee, but it does help me stay full and energized. I have felt sluggish and very low energy for years now. So I sometimes take caffeine pills, sometimes drink coffee.

Coffee hasn't slowed down my weight loss. I tend not to eat as much when I drink it, so it's a trade off. I normally put 4 liquid Creamers (I use liquid since it has no sugar) and 5 packs of Splenda in a 20oz glass. I'm down about 44lbs since surgery - 31/2 months ago.

Oh I was going to answer, but I was to busy drinking my morning coffee!

My surgeon said it a no no along with everything else so I didn't start having it again until 3 months out, and now I buy a mix of Beans 1 bag regular and 1 bag Decaf and mix them together before grinding :)

My surgeon said to drink Decaf and I could have as much as I want. He also said to limit caffeine or eliminate it completely. He also said that I could have ONE cup of regular coffee per day. If I drink coffee, it is regular coffee... but I don't have it every day. Before I started my weight loss journey, I would have up to 3 cups of coffee per day, but I just don't crave it like I used to.

For me, I don't see the point in drinking decaf. But, that is just me. :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
