I'm starting my two week pre-op diet this week. Any advice? Dr recommended Protein Shake Breakfast, shake snack, Protein Bar lunch, shake snack, 4 oz. Lean meat and vegetables at dinner, and shake snack. I guess the idea is to shrink liver before surgery.

I start mine tomorrow for 9 days. My doctor said I can only have the shakes and liquid such as broth.

No solids at all? That's brutal but i guess we'll be good to train you for after surgery.

This is what my surgeon requires of his patients. I wish I'd have gotten a surgeon who lets you eat even just one meal per day! I really don't know how I'm going to survive this, especially since I'll still have to cook for my family! Ugghh.....I can already hear my tummy grumbling! :(

Hang in there, kristy26 and Pixie Dust - you'll be strong enough to do it! Just don't go too long between shakes - they are what will give you a sustained full feeling. I'm finding with my current testing of the diet waters that a Protein shake will keep me feeling okay for about 3 hours, and I can stretch that to 4 hours if I'm drinking plenty of liquid.

Just plain chicken broth from a box doesn't do it for me, but if I doctor it up with more herbs and pepper, then simmer it with some veggies and strain it that it seems more full-bodied to me and more like a meal. I think I'm actually going to try and make myself some home made chicken broth before I go in for surgery and have it waiting for me, though. More flavor and maybe a bit healthier for me :P

I dont start my diet until the end of May but my doctor is putting me on 5 shakes per day plus 3 servings of fruits and all the vegetables I want to eat. The 5 shakes are Pure whey from Target. 2 scoops each time.

Im nervous about starting that but have started working up to it. I am doing 2 shakes per day now along with regular food and working up each week until I get to the no meet weeks.

Hopefully that will help.

Where do you get the shakes from? I won't start this for at least 5 months.

Pure Whey from Target is good. Even with Water it is a good time.

You can get the Protein Shakes from all different places, department stores, drug stores, GNC, the Vitamin Shoppe, or on-line. After many, many, many trials I've found that designer whey has the least offensive taste, pretty smooth actually. At my pre-op meeting the other day they recommended nectar brand as an alternative to chocolate, strawberry, vanilla shakes, just ordered a sample pack from their website.

I got my sample pack of Syntrax Nectar last week and I'm working through them. They are pretty good, and a nice change of pace!

Still amazes me how different all doctors are about the pre op diet. Mine is similar to yours

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
