I posted this in the powder Room too so please don't think you have to answer twice. I just thought some women never make it to the Powder Room so posting here might be smart.

Hi, I'm having the gastric sleeve on May 8th and I'm worried about how my Mirena IUD is going to effect the surgery. I know you're suppose to stop all hormonal birth control pills because they increase your risk of blood clots but I can't stop the Mirena. I still have 4 years to go.

Plus my return flights are 5 hours and 1.5 hours. Surgery plus the Mirena plus hours being seated make for Fear Factor in my mind.

If you have the Mirena, what was your experience? Was your doctor concerned at all? Did you have to walk more? Did you do anything special to reduce your risk of clots?

If you do a search on Mirena here you will find lots of info on it..

As for medical concerns about Mirena and surgery that is something that you should find out directly from your doctor.

My surgery was on April 11th and I have the mirena IUD. My doctor never expressed any concern before or after surgery, and things went well for me. Since having the mirena I rarely have menstrual cycles, but the surgery brought it on. However, I hear that menstration after surgery is normal.

My experience with surgery and the mirena was exactly the same as yours.

I had the IUD on all 6 of my surgeries and all docs were aware of it and it wasn't a concern

I also have the mirena, & everything was fine. It was after my surgery that things got crazy. I hadn't had a period in four years, but I'm having them now :(... With spotting between periods. I've also seen posts on here regarding effectiveness of iud's after surgery... Some women have gotten pregnant ;(

I have a Mirena too. I did have some spotting right after surgery then again a few days later. Since then everything is back to normal. I didn't have any problem due to the Mirena.

I had my sleeve done on March 14, 2013 and my experience was the same - surgery brought on my period. Hopefully, I will go back to no periods.

With Kaiser, the bariatric program really pushes you to be on BC other than the pill or condoms and they really pushed getting Mirena so I got it. The OB also said that it helps with the excessive menstruation that some women get after a large weight loss.

No! That would be so freaking awful (a blessing for others though). I'll ask my doctor about it. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks ya'll! That's exactly what I needed to know. I had informed the doctor that I have the mirena in and he didn't say anything but I wanted to ask some experienced sleevers. :D I so love this board!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
