edamame - friend or foe?

The vegetable seems innocent enough and sports 9 grams of Fiber, 11 grams of Protein and a lot of Vitamins for a 1/2 cup. However, the same 1/2 cup also has 120 calories and 13 grams of carbs. Granted we are not going to be eating 1/2 cup, but that is a lot of calories for a green vegetables.

They also tend to slide a bit so may cause a calorie surplus if you really love them. I happen to like them and had about 25-30 pods for lunch. Average was 3-4 lumps in a pod.

What do you think: friend or foe?

Absolutely a great Friend! I have a bag full for dinner most nights.

Because of this thread I had some edamame. I used to eat it all the time pre surgery but hadnt had any post. Good news, everything went great! I still love it and my body still loves it.

What about the 'fiberous' crunchy/skin/shell on it-- u eat it or 'peel it'

I don't eat the shell. Just the little beans on the inside. I use my teeth-- like with an artichoke. I like the way they make them at a sushi place. Enjoy!

Oh yes, sometimes you can find them at the grocery store in the frozen section. Directions are on the package.

Never eat the shell myself. Too tough! I shell them and eat the pods as is. You can buy a yummy edamame salad from Sam's Club. Costco might also have a similar salad for sale.

I never eat the shell either. I buy the frozen steam fresh bags then microwave them and sprinkle a little sea salt and bam, yummy protein snack. I have also bought an edamame salad from the grocery store but I actually like the steam fresh ones better.

The only kind I've had I'd the dried salted ones
