I am 6 days out and it takes me an hour to drink 2 oz of Protein Shake

Wow. Protein Shakes take me a bit longer than 15 minutes (closer to 30) but I can get the Water in faster. My biggest problem is feeling so full. I also am realizing that I am lactose intolerant. FUN:( Even a couple sips of a Protein shake with lactose gives me aweful gas and has me running to the bathroom. I was avoiding shakes because of it, but then realized it must be the lactose. I have some Isopure that I'm drinking now.

I too am one week out and am no where close to meeting all my goals. All of my Protein Shakes makes me sick. I order several sample packs from different companies and they all make me sick. Even the Atkins shakes! I found chocolate lactose free milk and it has 12 grams and I can drink that ok but that's not enough. I only want to drink Water other than that but I'm lucky to get 30 ounces a day. Getting frustrated. ????

3 weeks out and 25 pounds down...feeling great! Have been very fortunate so far on my recovery...haven't had trouble getting liquids or Protein in, and have been virtually pain-free since about 4 days post-op. I would love to be down 30 pounds by week 4 because it would be 20% of my overall goal....but I think today starts the 'dreaded 3-week stall' that I have heard so much about...will see.

Relax, from here on it gets easier by the minute. I believe that part of the panic is due to the fact that you might think that the state you are in now will last forever. It won´t, and after a month when people ask you how the surgey went, you´ll go "Piece of cake"!

I had to walk about three times the first day before the nausea and dizziness went away. My stomach was giving me problems because of gas I think but the more I walked the more that went away. Finally I had to force myself to drink the required amt after about 3 days or I would have been in there longer. Not because I couldn't but because I didn't have a desire. I am two weeks out and feeling good. Start your Vitamins as soon as you can probably after you get home. Mine are powdered and go in my Water with Metamucil and crystal lite-it totally made a big difference.

It does get better, and what you're feeling is normal. I am on day 8 I believe and I still don't feel 100%. I think of it as my entire digestive tract going through a tornado and then getting repaired, it's very unhappy. Some things I found helpful; Chlorophyll - for diarrhea, and gas/bowel smell. Peppermint tea - nausea/vomiting it's a natural intestinal anti-inflammatory, helps significantly. Drink tea over Water, water has a heavy molecular weight, though tea is not water. sugar free popsicles have helped me get fluids in. Don't let the pain meds ware off. Standing and walking relieves the upper gas pains and a good burp is good news! Keep ice on your main manipulation site. Mine still hurts and is horribly bruised. Watch the ingredients of the Protein Shakes. For years I was able to drink Atkins, drank them pre-op, when I got home post-op naturally I was trying those, they made me feel awful. I didn't figure it out for a few days, but now that I switched to lactose and fat free milk with no sugar carnation, I feel significantly better. While I was in the hospi, they had me drink Glucerna, they did the same thing. The gas and bloating is gone. I thought I was going to have twins it felt so awful (not pg obviously) but that was the pressure feeling. So there must be an ingredient that was causing upset. Showers feel nice too. Room temperature drinks are better on the tummy then cold/hot. I spent all last week up until Monday thinking "why did I do this to myself?" I thought I had a kind of post partum depression, but it's going away. You will get better, just take it easy, relax, and pay attention to everything you intake, because it could be upsetting to your new tummy.

Oh and if you have dry mouth, biotene gum and rinse helps a lot. I'm just trying three little slices of steamed dark star zucchini now. Not even 3ozs. Already full.

...oh, and today is my first day on soft foods (although I did have some mashed potatoes the other night)...I know that everyone told me that I would definitely feel the restriction, but I just couldn't believe it (kind of like I didn't believe I wouldn't be hungry), but I just tried my first scrambled egg and what do ya know...full after very little. Yahoo!!!!

It gets much better!!! Hope they are giving you & sending you home with nausea meds. By day 5 you should feel a lot better. And better each day after that. 2 weeks out for me today & can honestly say I feel pretty normal:)

My surgery was May 13th. Have been gradually trying out soft foods. Feeling great' date=' and my normal active self. I've noticed tonite some rt side pain when I push a little. No nausea, no fever. Feels muscular, hard to describe. Stings a bit. Wonder if I pulled something when lifting Grandaughter or if it's something more serious. Is this normal for 16 days post op?[/quote']

Great job!! I know you're happy to be on soft foods!

I'm six days post op as well and I felt the same way and yesterday I had a cup of Decaf tea with a little skim milk and was able to drink that a lot faster than cold liquids

Cannot drink regular Water it feels awful! Prior to surgery I regularly drank 8-10 glasses! I miss it so.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
