Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Ok, I see that picture and I think about how high the sides are on that outfit and that it would never work for me because I have a panus...that great roll of skin that hangs down on my abdomen. It would look just awful, but then if I look awful enough the insurance people will PAY me to go get surgery, eh?

Hey! That just might work!

I am already having trouble with the french cut undies! (is that TMI?)

I can't imagine wearing that outfit -- and not getting some results!

They might pay for our plastics, just so that we never visit their office dressed that way again!

Good Morning Mal!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

How's Christopher doing?

I just wanted to post my meal plan for the day! Our first day together on the Plateau Buster's diet! Let's rock this thing!!!

S- 1/2 Low Carb Slim Fast Protein Drink (only drank it because I had to work out and take my meds!)

B- 1 egg, 1 Morningstar Farms Breakfast Sausage

S-1/2 cup cottage cheese

L- 3 oz of Turkey patty

S-1 scrambled egg with Low fat Cream cheese (I love eggs!)

D- 3 oz chicken

S- SF Jello (yum! - if I crave something good)

35 mins of Recumbent Cycling

PLAN/Intention! Drink my 96 oz of Water (some with crystal light)

I weighed this morning so I have a starting point.

Hey Dee!

Well, I ate absolutly terribly this weekend and now I am ready to start this P diet!

I am not disciplined enough to pre-plan my meals, I wish I was!

This is what I have had so far...

B~Atkins shake

S~HB egg (kind of hung there for a while, then it got stuck!)

L~chicken patty

S~1/2 yogurt

D~??

S~??

I plan on walking Buster our usual 3 mile walk and water??? as always, by my side!

I weighed this moring too....here we go sistah!!! I have to go back and print the diet.

Oh, thanks for asking about Chris. He wouldn't wake up so I could take him to the urgent care. I think he will be fine...he CAN walk...LOL. I had sooo much to do this weekend that if he wanted to go, he had to get up early, he didn't so we didn't go and I haven't heard him complain and as a matter of fact, he ended up skating yesterday.

Anyone going to the clothing swap on Wednesday???

I'd love to go to the clothing Swap, but I'm working that day til 1930.

Are you planning on going?

Sounds like your first day is going well! At RR, Lifesaver was telling us that if you get 15 mins of work out in in the evening that your metabolism works through the night while you're sleeping and you burn more calories. So I'm going to try to get 15 mins of cycling in each evening. I used to do it once in a while, but I'm going to do it again -- hopefully it will keep me from wanting to eat!

I'm not that disciplined either, but I know myself and if I don't have things planned and prep'd, I will cheat! I'll get hungry and eat something I shouldn't.

I just made a bunch of 3 oz ground beef and ground turkey patties. I need to get to the store and get more yogurt.

Hope your day is going well! Thanks for doing the PB diet with me!!!

Lapdancer, thanks for your reply, but no forum jump showed up here; it took me to a space that "unscribed" me...not so good. Maybe you could just write out the address for me?

I sent my first communication to Dr. K's office; hopefully, I will hear soon. This is all very scary for me at my age...57...as the OHSU personnel made it sound as if one is over 50 it is questionable to be approved for surgery. Has anyone else had that experience?

Thanks sooo much for responding.

This link is at the very very very bottom of this page. Click the FORUM JUMP box arrow and open up the box. Otherwise tell me what you are looking for and I'll do a search for you.

................................................

Dee..thanks for that. I appreciate it.

"What type of substance abuse..."

"You know that's rather personal and when I say addiction it's all relative"...

Dear Lap,

You are officially my hero. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I resent the insurance companies for thinking that EVERYTHING is their business and they have a right control every medical decision.

You so totally rock!

Dee! This P diet is HARD!!! I did fine all day, now I want to eat EVERYTHING! I always get soooooo hungry after working out, it has always been a problem for me. I decided to go to the gym, did my cardio and weights, drank lots of Water, came home ate pork roast (I hope that was on the list) and now I am hungry! I hope I make it through the night! Gosh, it's the first day....I suck!

Me?

Are you sure you mean me?

Gee, "amazingly great"? I don't think anybody's said anything remotely that nice about me in a long, long time. Thanks, Mal!!!

Tips? Well, I'd say the biggest plus for me is coming here to stay in touch and feeling like I've got some traveling companions on this life journey. Another is not allowing myself to be negative about everything I do the way that I have been in the past. (Forgiving myself has been big for me!) And lastly, I keep reminding myself that I've made a huge financial investment in my health with this band and I am determined not to have wasted this $$!!

Other than that I'm constantly stealing ideas from you guys and trying to make them work for me.

Everyone have a good night and a healthy tomorrow with good choices all around!

Mal!

I'm with you Dude!

I just had some SF Jello with SF/FF Whip Cream. I feel like eating everything! ANYTHING! I'm sucking tonight too! AND not in a good way!

Sorry!

I might have some more Jello! That stuff is like air!

Too bad they aren't jello shots!

Stick with it Girl! We can do it! I know we can!

Only 9 Days Left!

BTW, that sucks for the clothing swap! That's really too bad! Even though I couldn't go! AND Mal, you can eat anything else on the list that you want! cheese, more pork roast, cottage cheese....

Shelbi,

Mal is right! You are doing amazingly great and you're always so positive and sweet! I love your posts!

AND I am proud to have you sitting by my side on the Loser's Bench!

Ah, Dee, you make me blush!

Thank you for your very kind words and for inspiring me every day.

Being your bench mate is quite the honor.

(I'm working on the elbowing but like mama said..this "child just cain't keep to 'erself." :))

I am at 201 this morning. Down only .8 ! Feeling desperate for my Memorial Day Goal, but pushing the negative thoughts away that have always sabotaged me. The rest of this week is about Water, Protein, watching the carbs and moving! I know I am PMSing and bloated, so I've got to avoid the salt that I am craving and maybe I'll release the 2 pounds that I'm holding on to.

Everbody please take a second to check in -- I worry about you if you don't post in awhile. I'm not naming names, but you know who you are. Now don't make me come back there.........:)

You go girl! With a trainer! I'm serious! You're a better woman than me! I can't do it! I'd be crying and he'd have a hott little outfit on and a big whip! OH! That might do the trick actually! Do they make little sexy outfits like that for Dom Boys? Someone stop me!

Okay back!:wink2:

sheesh! It was getting really warm in here!

The Plateau Buster diet is good for a 10 day revive! I had gained a little weight and this morning, I'm down 2 lbs. I had lost all that weight last month, gained and then couldn't get the scale to move for over 2 weeks. I know that is not technically a plateau, BUT for me it was scary! Gaining and then staying there day after day after day! I had to do something!

I've got your back LapDancer!

dee~

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
