Mal! Good morning! And yes, listening to a motivational cds counts towards doing something for yourself! And you know what else counts? DRAWING! It is so kewl that you are doing this again. Bring it tonight, okay? I want to see too! Drawing is very therapeutic. Especially since you were drawing "dark" things. You are expressing all that is in you, putting it on paper. Looking at it. Perfecting it. Altering it. Contemplating it. You are dealing with it just as you would with a therapist! All I can say is congratulations!

Thanks Woofay~...very touching and very true. Intereseting you say that I am expressing all that is in me, putting it on paper...it just kind of flowed out of me. and now I can't think of anything else to draw??? It's not that great, quick about an hour on a scratch piece of paper. I don't know if I can bring it tonight (emotional drama), but I would'nt mind e-mailing it to you, just PM me your e-mail address, I am trying to figure out how to send it????

I ADMIRE that you play the piano...TERRIFIC!!! I always wanted to learn how to play the piano! I come from a very musical family, I am the only one with no talent...I can play the drums (whhhhhooooopie)!!

I can sooo tell that you must be a great journalist, your posts are always fun to read, you are a good writer.

Later!!

Oh my friends -

Such insight and progress I see and hear, we have writing, drawing, playing, all expressive arts. So necessary since we aren't burying ourselves in food any more. I am amazed how little I need to eat to survive. I am angry about it, feel frustrated that eating was my form of expression, now I get it. You guys make it clearer to me.

See you tonight at Red Robin. I will bring a lady and a painting for you to see. We are developing a portfolio of our work too. So I'll drag that along.

Hugs see you at 7, Mal and Woofay! Lap you'll be there in spirit! Congrats on your new duds. It is always a good thing before going back to school.

Hugs again,

Michelle

OK, I'm just going to brag a little bit....

A friend stopped by the other night saying he didn't have any room in his freezer for all this KING CRAB! So....I got 10 Crab, cooked 'em up and just finished a heaping plate (shared by my son who ate faster than I did)! YUM, YUM! He's going to be giving us some Silver Salmon this weekend! Gotta love this place!

Well, I finally did it! I'm now one pound lighter than my surgery weight. Yeah, it's just a pound, but the way I've been able to eat for a couple of weeks sure didn't make it easy to lose! Funny though, I actually don't eat as much this week as I have in the past two...maybe I'm just figuring out that I don't have to be full, just satisfied and I'm learning what that feels like....although, I tell ya, I could eat a few more crab right now! HAHA!

Yeah, you go have your fun at 'ol Red Robin, I'll be here with my King Crab and Salmon! :-)

Mal - sure, send me your art...my only "outlet" is my kids right now.

Hi all,

Major bummer, I am now being banded the 5th of September, I was supposed to be banded yesterday, but I had a fever, post-nasal drip, sore thraot and a cough (my two year picked up a cold at daycare...apparently, she does not mind sharing some things), so it was a no-go... So now I wait another month...oh well. On the bright side, I lost 6.5 pounds on the pre-op low carb diet (which I probably gained back when I hit Crabshack Joe's ...across the street from the Parker CPSC...) I will go back to low carbing (just not so diligently, until 10 days before)...just to try to maintain. I was doing the Atkins law carb deal and Dr. K says, you only really need to avoid white foods (pasta, rice, spuds, bread and sugars....oh and corn, peas and beans...you can even do an occasional low carb tortilla!)... Anyhow, that's what I will do until 10 days before and then, I'll kinda go Atkins again.....

I'm a little worried because the timing of surgery date number 2 is tight...I am adopting a baby boy from Guatemala (that's where my two year old daughter is from too)...anyhow, we are getting very close to the expected timeframe for finally being able to bring him home... although the adoption process is so variable, it could be even several months beyond September... Still, I am hoping I can recover fast enough (for baby lifting/carrying purposes) before we get to pick him up.... (I just visited him 2 weeks ago...he's such a cutie patootie...5.5 months old and got his first tooth already!)

Anyhow, that's my new hiccup...although I am glad Dr. K decided not to go ahead if everything was not 100% before operating...made me feel better....

Tina... was gonna be a "crazy ate", now, going be a September gal I guess...

Taynuh~ sorry to hear about your delay. You must be so frustrated! Plus, to get all worked up (scared, anxious, whatever) and then have it cancelled. I kinda think that things happen for a reason, even if that isn't obvious at first. Also, Congrats on having another child. Children can certainly fill your life with love and a sense of purpose! Thank God there are people like you who can give a child everything they should have and deserve to have~ love, a home, hope, everything. You are a special person.

Drewslou~ hey, I think that we are having September's get-together on a tuesday. We were thinking of you and would really like you to be a part of our ritual. What do you think?

Also, I have some things going on that I am ready to share. (I wasn't the other day) I found out that my band does indeed have a leak. I guess I'm the Doc's only second one, Drewslou being the other. It was suspected for a couple of months with the seriously unmatching amounts in it. And my last fill sort of confirmed this. It was empty when I went for my last fill. In a way, it's sort of a relief. This weight loss thing was a little harder than I expected. Now I know why! The very positive side of it is that I have been losing weight, and fairly well. There is some restriction even being empty and I have been working on my eating quite hard. At this time, my fills last about a week or so. It's a very slow leak. Sooooooo, if I'm doing this well with a leaky band, man am I going to start losing with it working properly! At least thats my theory! Ha! :)

Am I upset over it? Well, not really. I (we) went into this knowing that this is a real posibility. It can happen. And with 150 bands done, I think the occurance of 2 makes it like a 1.3% chance with him. (been a long time since I've done math! I may be wrong) Thats a pretty darn good track record! I just gotta get it fixed. Right now I'm tentatively scheduled for Sept 10th. I guess that's subject to change. I have an appointment on Tues to make sure, sure. I guess things will be further discussed and decided then. To me, it's the same as getting a fill to make it work properly. I've just got to get it working properly.

Have a great day, All!

Taynuh.... I'm being banded on 9/5 too! I'm sure you are pretty let down by waiting, but it will be fine!

Congratulations on your upcoming adoption! That must be so exciting for you especially because you have been able to visit your little one! DH and I are just coming out of a failed domestic adoption - the parents changed their minds over the weekend. So instead of waiting for my surgery in January, now it's just a few weeks away! I really think timelines have a way of working themselves out. I decided that I'm doing this now for me and the rest will work out as it should. I know if you end up traveling soon, you will be ready for it!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
