Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Thanks to all of you for your greetings to a newbie. I have been reading your posts for quite a while and I know you care about everyone going on this journey.

Dee - I don't live in CO - I live in Oklahoma. My brother and his wife live in Parker so I can stay with them when I'm there after my surgery. But I would like to try to come for a fill around the time you have a meeting. There is a group of banders that meet about 1 1/2 hours from me but no one very close. I have a very close group of friends who are supporting me in this but I believe it will be important to talk to all of you who are actually dealing with the band every day.

All of you posting losses are encouraging me regardless of the amount. I have weighed the same for so long and when I do lose some weight I can't keep it off. I am a candidate for the surgery primarily because of the co-morbidities I have with my weight.

Thanks again - 23 days til band!:tongue_smilie:

I hope that I didn't make anyone feel bad because I shared my weight loss...that was not my intent. I am just excited.

If I was down 20, I would be excited as well!!! No worries slow losers, it is going to come down. I just know it!

Brandy - no way are YOU making ME feel bad. I'm happy and even excited for you and your motivation. I come here for support and I need to be able to voice my honest opinion to get honest support. Please, don't EVER feel that you might be hurting my feelings by doing so well....I'll get out of this funk and NEED your inspiration!

Welcome, Sidann!

Renee -- I'm sorry about what you've been experiencing. I'm sending you positive thoughts, prayers and good wishes that the worst is behind you. Maybe you can go ahead and call Dr. K and get his acceptance? Perhaps that would make you feel like you're making some positive steps toward your CO move. Keep us posted.

Brandy -- I want to hear about every pound lost and every minute of exercise accomplished by everyone. It's all a part of the support that I come here for -- the celebrations and the setbacks and the stalls, too! You better not stop posting your progress or I will SO call you out for a progress report -- I am proud of you and sharing your accomplishments helps me along the way.

Denise -- Good to hear from you and keep up your great progress! Enjoy Paris, you lucky woman!

Ami -- Howdy! You're doing amazing without a fill! Good to hear from you.

Lap -- Cracker Barrel's hashbrown casserole and chicken n' dumplings are my absolute favorites. :) I love everything about that place -- especially the store. Good for you making good bandster choices at probably the most tempting place in the world!

I got a small fill yesterday. I think I'm at 5.2 cc, but I'm not certain. I'm doing liquids for 48 hours post fill, so we'll see if I'm at a sweet spot in a few days. I've been working in my yard -- building a stepping stones walkway and re-doing some flower beds. Trying to keep movin' everyday.

Have a great week everyone!

Hey everyone! I haven't posted in awhile to say hello but I read this thread often. I am still hoping on moving to back home to Colorado next month or in early June. Things have been so crazy... my hubby got in an accident in work and that has kind of put a damper on interviewing for other jobs in Colorado. My family has had all of these issues in Colorado for which I have been stuck in Virginia for and it is so hard. I feel so helpless. My dad and stepmom lost there house in a fire a week and a half ago. My mom has been in the hospital for a week... was on a respirator for 4 days but is doing much better now, thank goodness. I want to be there so bad but if I spend the money to come home to visit now, we wont have enough left to move home! Anyways... I know that is just a long old rant from someone you guys dont even know! I'm sorry. But I have to say... the support that you all give each other is so amazing to me. I cant wait to get home and hopefully meet some of you! You all are such an inspiration.

I have not yet called Dr. Kirshenbaum to see if he will accept me as a patient when I get there... but I really hope that he will! I sure have enjoyed all the pictures you have posted of him... WOW! He seems to have such a genuine smile!

Anyways... thanks again for your displays of what supporting each other is all about! You guys are fantastic!!!

Renee

Renee,

How did I miss your post? My Goodness, you have been through so much in such a short period of time. I'm so sorry! AND I'm so sorry, I missed your post.

Your husband's accident, your Dad and Stepmom's fire and your poor Mom on the vent... so much for you to digest. Do you have siblings who live in Colorado? Let me know if I can do anything to help your family.

Dr. K is very nice. He's very genuine and you can sense just from visiting with him in this office that he truly cares about your well-being. Please don't hesitate to call him and discuss your needs.

Take care of yourself, Renee.

Hugs,

dee~

John, congrats! That picture is great. You are inspirational.

Brandymom, you have nothing to apologize for -- congrats to you!

Welcome to all newbies! I hope everyone is well. I am so busy lately, crazy family stuff going on (brother's wedding, other brother's graduation, grandmother's illness) that I'm behind. I had my second fill on Friday. This was my first fill with a local doc and he was great, very friendly and easy to talk to. I am really lucking out with doctors lately. I have restriction again, I keep losing and I continue to think that getting the band is the best thing I have done for myself in ages and ages. Yay! :glare:

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I am having my surgery on April 30th with Dr Kirshenbaum. I have been doing Atkins for the last week and only have 1 more to go. Luckily I don't have to do the liquid diet:smile2: I live in Billings MT and originally had my surgery scheduled in Great Falls for $7000 more:thumbs_down: I grew up in Denver and still have family there so that makes it pretty nice. I have been reading about everyones successes and I am ready to have some of my own. Thanks for sharing.

Cool....a fellow Okie!!!! Where ya from??? I'm in Mustang.

I would also love to travel back to see Dr. K, just can't make the drive all the time. I located someone about an 1 1/2 hr away from me to do my follow-up. I hope he's good...or I'll probably be have to head back to Denver.

Good luck on your surgery Sidney!! You can do it!!!!!!!:blushing:

I am scheduled for 5/14. Is anyone else scheduled for about the same time? I am not scheduled to talk to him for our initial consult until 4/30. That seems like that is cutting it pretty close. I am scheduled to talk to the nutritionist 4/28. Did anyone have there initial consult so close to the scheduled surgery date? Also, did anyone do any background check on him before hand? Just wondering.

Dee,

Thanks for being so thoughtful. I dont think there is anything you can do for my family right now. Just listening to me as I worry out loud is plenty! I do have a brother in Colorado who has been there helping my parents as much as he can.

My mom is home from the hospital now and doing much much better. Was a bit scary for a few days, but she pulled through. My dad and stepmom are trying to move forward. The fire is still under investigation by the insurance company because there was an explosion that caused the fire. So they are kind of in limbo, but they are hanging in there. My hubby is feeling much better now. He has his next Dr. appt. on the 28th and can hopefully return to work.

We still plan on making our move back to Colorado in early June. I am trying not to worry about things as much. I decided I need to leave things up to a higher power and trust that everything will work out exactly like it is supposed to!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
