Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Yep, hamster here too! I've tried taking a small bite to begin with, but it never works out -- I end up chewing it with my front teeth like Clark Griswald chewed the dry turkey in Christmas Vacation. The hamster way is the only way for me.

Dee, just show up and you're automatically family! Bring a bottle of wine and you get a spot in the family plot, should you need a final resting place.

:hippie:Yep -

I'm back from the land of sun,:sun: surf and mosquitoes. I had a fabulous time, forgot all the sh_t around here, and just kicked back. I didn't eat awful, but drinking :beer:is another story. I promise myself not to weigh for a week, because I will be disappointed, and I am not a number.:violin: I walked at least two miles everyday in the sandy beach, went snorkeling, shopping and in general really enjoyed being "just me". I had several PB's when I'd forget about the choke collar around the neck and the "whatever" didn't go down. Torilla chips were something that I really had to chew. I can relate to the restaurant thing and Pb'ing. It is really uncomfortable, b:mad:ut what the f_ck, I doubt if anyone is really listening. However, third world bathrooms are a great deterent. I haven't figured out what to do when I am really hungry,:hungry: because I'm so used to shoveling it in to satisfy hunger, that I do and am sorry quickly. Thank God for alcohol. But I don't do that at home.

:eyebrows:

Sorry, no cabana boys, but this gorgeous gentleman came up and asked me if we had met before. I said no, but maybe I had a double and he said, "what a lucky world we live in, if that were true.":bounce: I about fell off my chair. Then he walked back to his wife.;)

So, I think RR is a great idea when Lap is here. You guys figure out the date. I am subbing for the next two and a half weeks.:faint:

Hugs,

Michelle

I had my first fill today :whoo:Dr Kirshenbaum was geat!! He had never worked with my type of band (heliogast) so he filled till I was totally restricted then backed off some. I have 4cc in my 7cc band. I unfortunately gave into my husband and tried a salmon patty and got to have my first PB. Gross but not really that painful. :embarassed: Oh well hopefully I will resist giving in to him again and only eat what I think I can handle. Looking forward to meeting you all at RR (whenever that may be) :clap2:

I actually got my band in TJ, Dr Kirshenbaum is just doing my fills for me. I wish I could have afforded to stay here and have him do the band, but TJ was fine, no problems, so I guess that was the way it was meant to be.

Hi all,

Yesterday, I got my second fill (hey bookholder, when were you at Dr. K's? I was there at 11-12:30...ugh). Anyhow, I am now up to 4.3 cc's(got 2.3 cc's on my first fill), I do not know how much my large Inamed AP band holds all together), but I think I might be a little too snug. I tried to sneak in a piece of pizza last night (well just the toppings) at 9 p.m. and was up till about 1 a.m. ...ummm...getting rid of it. (Okie dokie...lesson learned...do not snack after dinner). I am hoping it was just that I got something stuck and/or that I may have some temporary swelling that will go down in a day or two... otherwise, I am heading back in to get "loosened up a bit" next week. So, for now and the next day or so, I'm doing just mushies and soft foods to let things settle down a bit.

I can't recall who said the band was like a shock collar.. but truly, I do think that's the best description... it really drives the rules of eating with a band home the hard way. I certainly do not like the consequences that's for sure... so back to behaving for me. ;)

Hi Everyone -

glad to see a few new participants. I am having the hardest time reclaiming my "healthy lifestyle". I told my son to get rid of the candy by tonight or I will throw it out. I think all that drinking on vaca got my carbohydrates outta whack. I am starting to exercise again, that always helps.

I think Friday night will work for me, so go for it! How many of you will be there?

Struggling to get back on track,

Michelle

:help: While I am sure it's helping my weight loss...it's really as Dr. K says, "making me miserable". Anyone out there ever get too tight after a fill? How quickly does DR. K get ya in to unfill a bit? I am eagerly awaiting Monday (a day I normally dread).

For newbies... while it is miserable (it's bearable, just unnecessary), I do have to say, I'm not feeling hungry (well, mind hunger yes...). I'm just tired of the nightly barf fest (or shall I say, PB fest)(I used to like saying PB, in the old days, when it meant Peanut Butter and I could have it slathered on bread... a food I definitely can't eat while too tight)... I'm whining... yes indeed!

I really tried to cooperate too during the fill... the Water was going down so smoothly and all... hardly any resistance. I should have stayed and had a snack locally before heading north to Boulder County... that way, I would have known it was more than tight enough... then again, maybe it's temporary swelling issue. I was able to eat a small Wendy's chili later that day... although it did take an hour...

You experienced folks...do you think I could have swollen after my lunch that day and then am just aggravating it with the PB fests? Heck, I gotta stop second guessing myself here...I'm just calling in Monday morning and letting him/his office make the decision... I want restriction yes, but whoa, this is a bit much...

On the bright side (I'm a firm believer in finding a silver lining to everything)... tonight I bought new pants two (woohoo) sizes smaller than my norm... pretty cool...even the same brand and style as some I was wearing...so it's really two sizes....

Hi Rosie...

I think you hit the nail on the head...everyone is a little different. I really did not have pain... I took one dose of the liquid vicodin stuff and that was it...not even tylenol... As for passing liquids...hmmm...that's not good...I would think you should be able to sip more easily and I would especially worry about dehydration. I was able to drink big gulps with no problems from the get go. Then again, you might still be swollen. Again, everyone is different. I would give the doc a call just to see if that's normal... it may be for you...then again, it may not be, so please call and set your mind to rest one way or the other. I don't think such a call would be a bother either (heck you paid for the service I would say...)

And remember, it does get easier and better...

Hi all!

i have been very busy and have not even signed on for nearly a month I think.

I am doing ok, but time for another fill. I am going to be in Denver November 13th. I may be able to go there and back in the day and not stay over, but I thought if there happened to be a get together that night that I would stay over and finally be able to attend.

So, is there a date for a November get together? November 12th or 13th by any chance?

Jennifer

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
