I am 4 days post-op and I am still having some pretty bad pain on the right side of my stomach (a little below my largest incision). I am up and walking around pretty regularly and I am pretty close to meeting my fluid/protein goals! I have lost about 5 more pounds since surgery! However' date=' I do find that I still need my liquid lortab about every 5-6 hours. Anyone else still needing their pain meds? If it wasn't for this pain on the right side of my stomach, I would literally be pain free....I haven't had any fevers and I have had a few BMs...I'm just wondering if it is gas pain or muscle pain.

[/quote']

I was in the same boat however I can't take pain Meds. Hang in there and add Protein because by day 5 which is today for me I feel 10x better compared to day 4! I am now just sore under my incisions compared to that sharp pain.

I have almost a burning sensation to just one incision. If I move a certain way' date=' or sit down on a low lying surface (sofa) i do feel a tugging sensation. I have no redness and I was running a temp in the 99*F but never got any higher than that. Called my surgeons nurse yesterday, she said as long as there aren't any s/s of infection to my sites or burning on urination just monitor it, but it's fine. Yesterday, was my first day I didn't take any pain meds & my temp. also stabilized itself the entire day/night. I might have to take a spoonful of pain med today because I had my first sneeze which hurt like h. e. double hockey sticks to say the least and it has left me a little sore. Not bad though. I'm not in excruciating pain thank God. I've been mainly trying to wean myself off of it though but no doubt about it - if I need it, I will take it & not think twice about it.

As far as fluids/protein. I find myself SO full. I'm still having a hard time getting in all my Water. Supposed to be getting in 48oz + the Protein shakes. (I've been using whey isolate powder w/ h2o.) not the most pleasant tasting one but I do find the more Protein I intake I feel better. Yesterday I got in 60g of protein and a whole bottle of Water, and one SF Popsicle. That was it. Couldn't go anymore. Still trying to slowly increase. Today, so far I've gotten in 30g and about 8 oz of Powerade zero. Still pushing though.

One more note: congratulations on the weight loss!! I go to my surgeon on the 13th can't wait to see how much I lost!![/quote']

Glad to hear your feelig better! I tried unjury protein and it works wonders from yesterday to today. I see my surgeon on the 13th as well can't wait to see my progress

Day 5 and on is the key. It's amazing how you can go from feeling like death to pretty darn good in less than 24 hours. I remember crying in the shower from the pain. A stomach binder helped me with the pain. But when I took it off to shower and change boy did it hurt. I still feel a little tugging sensation in that right incision but its getting better every day. No more burning pain there. I was sleeved on 2/19/13.

I was sleeved 4days ago i am still in pain and already sick of Soups. when i swallow i can feel the pain and i am purping alot what can i do to help this. I dont know if it is pain or hunger. At this moment i wish i never did this. Helpppppp

Im having the same issue, pain when I swallow. I use hot tea to relieve it. 2oz helps a lot. I burp a lot, but it helps with the other issue. Protein and Jello feel like lead in my stomach. Discovered pudding is way to heavy.

Feeling slowly better day by day. I am still a little sore' date=' but up and moving around a little already this am. I find gas pains are a little bad this am, but I've not taken anything for them hoping they will just pass. Sitting up to get up still hurts worse for me as well. Temps fine this am too. How are you feeling? Hope you're well![/quote']

The incision pain on right side only hurts when i get up or try to bend to use the restroom. I was told it was muscle pain. If that would stop I would be fine.

I was sleeved on 2-27' date=' at first in the hospital I thought wow, this is it, well its awesome. very litlle pain, felt like myself, and thought I can totally handle this. However, I forgot one thing...I was hooked up to a Dilated pump and getting shots of Toradol every couple hours.

My head could have missing and I would have felt the same way...lol

Facing reality at home minus the hi powered pain pumps and booster shots its a lil different.

In my experience you have to have some level of tough-girl in you. Yes there are some posters out there who had surgery within days of me who are already walking a mile and a half and shopping at Wal Mart. Thats Great. I am jealous and happy for you. With that said thats not the case here.

I am sleeping on my side, with the assistance of two stuffed pillows one in my back holding up pressure their and one on the opposite side holding the pressure under the length of my stomach, I do not lay on the side of my worst upper left incision.

I do not sleep through the night. The pain from my incisions, and the relentless monster growling painful gas that goes on minute after minute I suffer the worst from the gas that just likes to camp out in my intestines. I take 15 mg of Oxycodone every 3 hours , or one an hour. I get up every couple hours to walk my house and go to the bathroom and literally have a heart to heart with god about how good I will be if he just lets me go number 2..lol. ( its gotta relieve that gas right?)

Last night I got so desperate at 4 am I bit open a colace and sucked the inside out. I couldn't just take it because it was a gel cap, apparently a big no-no. It tasted like rat poison. Not doing that again.

I have to have my husband help me in and out of our bed, (it is a lil high up)

I also have to wake him up several times each time in the middle of the night to do this.

I have had issues with diverticulitis in the last couple of years which I associate with the super sensitivity to the horrendous gas pains which I can only compare to end stage labor pains. I have taken gasx strips, milk of magnesia and the colace I bit into. And yes I walk walk walk and sip sip sip.

Does my actual stomach hurt? no just the gas in my intestines.

Am I hungry? No not at all

Have I lost weight? Yes like 7 pounds in 5 days.

Do I regret my decision to be sleeved? No I am in this for the long haul and cant wait to see my results in 6 months.

Am I a whiner? Maybe. But I don't remember reading this on posts before I got my surgery. Maybe I didn't want to see the rough parts and only focused on the before and after pics. Just keeping it real by telling my own experience.

I have been joking the last couple days saying they should have a "victims panel" (LOL)in one of the required pre op classes. Real ppl telling their real accounts of the different stages of the surgery (good bad indifferent ) would have been enlightening and I could refer to that as I go through each stage.

With all this said. I am happy with my decision. I am excited for the future. This isn't easy for my right now where I am on day 5 it can be frustrating, I'm sure lack of sleep, chronic pain and hormones on fire are fueling the fire. Fine. I can deal with it. Just venting. Thanks for listening, without judgement I hope.

J [/quote']

You know, that could have been me writing all of your post! Thanks, I hope it gets better. Cause I'm in the same boat. Lol

Hang in there - it will get easier. My first week I had chicken broth, Protein shakes, tried to drink Water, crystal light. The pain will get better. If you do not have any gas-x strips try some. I also take Prilosec twice a day which helps.

Each of us has slightly different experiences and some other posts on what they did might help. I still have pain and had hiatal hernia repair with sleeve.

Keeping you in prayers!

Yes, I completely agree about the pain upon standing or sitting. The pain has lessened standing up, now if it would lessen as I'm sitting I'd be rockin'! Glad everyone is doing well! I do still feel a slight tugging sensation too. I read it goes away at about 2-4 weeks. Still have trouble crouching or bending over. I haven even really attempted it but I know if I even start that way it will be painful.

Praying for a speedy recovery for us all!

I burp with everything I drink. Tea, Soup, applesauce

Mostly everything makes me burp. I did tolerate skim milk well as my guidelines were I could introduce it a few days after surgery. Protein Powder is now making me gag. So I'm currently looking for another outlet & hoping at my follow up appt. on the 13th they will boost me to purée. I hear gas-x strips work very well for gas relief, but I haven't taken them. Hope it gets better! Also, want to note that not only do I burp, but it's like a mix between a hiccup & a burp. But yowza, does sneezing hurt the worst!

Sneezing and hiccups are the absolute worst! Maybe because I had a hiatal hernia repair too but yowzaas.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
