Recommended Posts

Okay guys I am so new at this and Im tring to figure this whole thing out including my signature with the cute little Ticker. I was banded January 23 2007 and have lost 40 pounds...How I wish it was more..I am starting to see the differnce with my cloths but not physically all though everyone around me can. I am on my thrid fill and I feel great

Thanks For Reading its great to see your chats

40 lbs is GREAT! Welcome.

What type of band do you have? What is your fill level? Any complications? Sounds like your doing great, if others around you can see a difference, you must be doing great. I always noticed my changes long before other did. I had lost 50 lbs before people started commenting on how much weight I had lost. Now they won't shut up about it. lol .

Hey you guys, 40 pounds is great. When did you last lose 40 pounds at one time? Me? Never... I stalled out for about 7 weeks and didn't lose a pound...I started walking and counting calories...I finally got to moving on the scale. (Neither of which I'm doing at the moment but I'm going to get back on track as soon as I'm feeling stronger...monday at the latest!!)

We all must know (except for Tonya who already works out like a mad-woman) that we will reach a point where we MUST work out AND increase the intensity/length etc. We have to begin to mentally prepare for that..don't you think?

Keep telling yourself that you have made progress, you have success....and you will keep going. And losing!

Wow -- nice to see some activity here! Welcome newlou! 40lbs is awesome!

Today I had a lunch date with my bandster friend. We are quite the pair! We went to P.F. Chang's, which has always been one of our favorites. We ordered the lettuce wraps and one order of orange peel chicken. Between the two of us we barely ate 1/3 of what was on the table. We had the hardest time deciding what to order because we knew no matter what, it would be too much. The opposite of our old issues! Lots of leftovers! Plus, it took us over an hour to finish that much! It's so nice to sit at the table with someone who does not look at you wierd when you cut your chicken up into teeny weensy bites. The waitress was very nice -- but I know she was thinking "what the heck is up with these two?" LOL! My friend is looking so awesome too. She just recently got a fill after almost a year and quickly lost another 20lbs. She is my inspiration

Speaking of inpiration...I had a patient at work the other day who just wow-ed me. A 69 year old woman did 9 minutes on the treadmill and was barely out of breath! 9 minutes is what we expect to get out of a 30 year old! She did more than double what was expected of a woman her age. What was her secret, you ask? She walks 3-6 miles a day and has been doing so for years. Lace up those shoes girls!

HI everybody

It has been a longtime since I posted. I am doing well. I got a personal trainer who is very good. I can see weight and inches lost. Due to my PCOS it's slower than most but I am not going to give up. I lost 8 inches off my waist, 4 inches off my thighs, 1 inch off my hips. I am happy. Just thought I would share that.

Man - I'm so jealous of you! !) You went to PF Changs - that is my FAVORITE restraunt in the whole world! I always get the lettuce wrap and have them hold the rice noodles, and then I get Changs Spicey Chicken. The second reason I'm jealous is you have a personal friend that has been banded, that is so great, you can look to her for your inspiration, have lunch with her etc. I'm glad you guys had a wonderful time!

I asked this one lady what was the secret of her success on Bandsters@yahoo.com, she had lost 200 lbs in 2 years and was at goal, she said the #1 key is to stay on top of your fills. If you lose restriction, get it back by getting a fill, don't he haw around about it and waste time. Needing a fill does not mean your a failure - don't keep thinking "I'll do it on my own" or maybe I don't need a fill, if your eating more than 1/2 cup or 3/4 cup, go get a fill. She's not the first person that has told me this. So I need to stay on top of my fills!

That is great about the 90 year old woman, walking is so good for us all. Its so good for the heart. I started off my exercise campaign by walking, and still try and get 10 miles in a week on the treadmill. Lately, I've only been doing 6 miles, so time to pump up the walking again! Thanks for the reminder!

WOO HOO Congrats on the inches lost! I'm a firm believer that inches are way better than lbs. We're so trained to watch the scales all of our life, but inches count more! I was reading this article of all these women who has done BFL challenge. It was just saying that the major changes come in the weeks 8 thru 12. But the thing that really caught my attention is this one lady went from a size 12 to a size 6 and only lost 3 lbs! She said she no longer cared what the scales say, she is wearing a size 6! I thought that was true, I don't care how much I weigh if I'm wearing a size 6! I haven't been in a size 6 since I was 6 - lol.

Although I am in a size 12 now and I tried on a pair of shorts in a size 10 and I got them on and buttoned, they were tight, but I got them on! So, it won't be long until I'm out of the 12's!

I got my fill this morning! My doc put in .5cc, which seemed pretty good. She commented on how super tight it was after seeing my barium swallow. She said she was comfortable leaving it there, but asked if I was mentally prepared for that. Isn't she awesome!?! Well, as we were standing there talking, my throat made a huge gurgle. My doc promptly got me back on the table and took out .25cc just in case. I'm happy with my little fill -- no reflux on the barium swallow this time. I'm still pretty snug, so I'll have to be really careful with portions and such.

One interesting tidbit... I asked her about hiccups. I've been getting them every once in a while after a meal, and I thought they were just a new stop sign. Doc says it shouldn't be happening and that I'm probably just eating too fast. Another reason to slow down!

Off for a walk!

There you go, making ME jealous again. I want my fill! Yes your doc sounds wonderful! My doc is changing everything around, they are moving to another building in another city - and just really screwed up right on the fill situation! Making me mad!

Last night, I ATE way too much - I ate Pasta too, something I try and avoid. TOM is coming, I can tell. He comes quite regular now, actually even a little more often than I want him. lol. I used to have my menstrual cycle every 45 to 50 days, and then sometimes shorter and sometimes longer, it was a never know situation. Now its every 28 days or 25 days. And I've noticed I cramp a little worse.

I ended up eating a dish I made last nigh (which was heavenly) Linguine with clam sauce & shrip. Ceasar salad, and then to top it off, my daughter just got back from Branson and what did she bring me? FUDGE, the good chocolate, rich homemade kind. Well, being the wonderful loving mother that I am, I had to eat some. And then eat some more, and more, and more. Grrrrr, I woke up feeling sick this morning. I think I went into a carb overload last night.

So, double the exercise for me today. I've already walked 1.5 miles and will do another 1.5 miles at 3:00 today, and then tonight I will do my weight training, followed with 30 to 45 min on the treadmill.

Regarding the hiccups, I get them too. My dr. said it was one of 2 things, its either, I'm eating to fast, or its a sign I'm full. Most of the time I get them when I've eaten plenty, so for me its a sign I'm full. Thats when I push the plate away (accept last night - I just wated and ate more) grrrrrr.

I'm glad your checkin' in! We are missing so many that never check in!

I'm doing the Body-For-Life challenge by Bill Phillips - Body-for-LIFE - its mainly exercise and eating clean foods. ]

I have been completely off track. I lost the first 40 pounds so quickly and felt so good I thought I didn't have to watch it. I eat about 4 ozs. at a meal but I was starting to snack and eat too many carbs. Thanks for the info on the Body for Life. I have a 3 week road trip ahead of me with my husband and I will have to be very aware of what I'm doing or I could gain!

I'll keep in touch and let you know how it works out for me.

By the way, I think you are all doing wonderfully. Thank you for the advice and support.

Wow Im so glad I found you girls all this info is awesome..:)

I'm glad you found us too :)

Keep checking in with us - sometimes when we're off track, checking in can help us get back on track.

Oh by the way girls, I got my book in The Success Habits of Weight-Loss Surgery Patients (Paperback)

by [ame=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/102-7400493-4689715?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=books&field-author=Colleen%20M.%20Cook]Colleen M. Cook[/ame]

I LOVE IT. I haven't had time to ready it all, just the first chapter. It gives great pointers and tips and what the successful patients do. Rules to live by etc.

I think its by far the best book I've boughted regarding WLS, and this is my 4th book.

Sunshine and Sula -- Thanks for reminding me that pre-band I would have eaten a pan of brownies, so I shouldn't be too upset about eating only one.

Newlou -- Welcome aboard. You're doing great. I'm also trying to get to 120 or lower. It seems so far away. I can barely remember the last time I weighed that.

About hiccups.... I get them quite often, too. However, I don't just get them during or after eating, but I get them if I go too long without eating. I also get that nasty shoulder pain when I'm too hungry. Some people say the shoulder pain and hiccups are signs that you've eaten too much, but I tend to get them when my stomach is empty and growling up a storm. I wonder if the movement from the growling is causing the band to press on the diaphragm.

For some reason I thought this weight loss thing would be faster but hey I am so not knocking the results..shoot its way better than I have done in the past...I would have quit my other diet by now.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
