I hate to say it, but I cancelled my surgery last week. I was suppose to have it today. My family got the best of me and in the end I gave up and just cancelled it....

Hey all! Had my surgery yesterday with Garcia in TJ and i feel amazing! a little nausea and dizzy yesterday after trying to walk but it was short lived. The most pain I've felt is the nurses trying to get another iv started after the original one infiltrated. They are not very good at it so be warned you may be stuck a few times. Met some great folks here at Mi Doctor Hospital all getting the sleeve with different doctors. We are sleeve sisters for life! I'm excited to start my new life! Best wishes to all in their journeys at whatever point you may be!

I'm glad it went well. I changed mine to the 22nd and decided to go alone. Did you bring anyone with you? Do you think it will be too wierd alone all that time or has your time gone quickly. Heal quickly!

I went alone and met several others on my floor. you wont feel weird..bring a Teddy Bear or a favorite stuffed animal. Yes i'm still a kid at heart and it was comforting to me. Also, there is a phone you are able to use to call your family that is free and they can call you as well. We all share it on the floor. They have wi-fi too. It went fairly quickly and i actually enjoy my alone time, it was completely fine so don't worry about that. I'm now in the hotel room...the Marriott, a big king bed and very clean. Free wi-fi too at hotel is part of the deal, 2 waters, 3 broths & 2 Popsicles a day. I really don't feel hungry at all or thirsty now but i know i need to get my fluids in. They give you a few bottles of Gatorade and some small waters along with your meds and gauze to replace your bandages when you leave..at least this is what they did for me and i went with Ready 4 a change..the girls were phenomenal! They all made me feel right at home. I'll need to go downstairs in the hotel to buy more Water since they want us to drink 64oz a day. BTW-be sure to keep asking for juice, water etc when you have your 1st leak test and it's all clear to start ice chips & sipping liquids. They don't bring it to you continuously so just keep asking and get 2 small cups at least. Bring an empty water bottle & they'll fill it up for you so you can have it on hand and add Mio or crystal light to it if you want.

1 more week and you'll be a sleever! It will all be fine!! Oh and ask the dr if he'll take a picture of your stomach that was removed. Dr. Garcia did and had it sitting next to my lapband..looked like a big sausage and a little freaky to see it. He only does it if you ask so don't worry if you don't want to see it.

Best of luck!!!

I'm sorry to hear this...i recall someone asking where the 3rd patient was and i heard them say it was canceled...that must have been you. Hey, you have to do what is right for you when it's right. Maybe you'll never do it but feel confident in whatever decision you make. Hugs to you!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
