2 weeks post-op--very little restriction

I am 2 weeks post op and started "thin purees" this morning. I measured out 1/3 cup of pureed oatmeal and peaches and it went down very easily. I had to purposefully slow myself down, taking tiny bites and chewing them even though it was already pureed. It took me about 15 minutes to eat it. I probably could have eaten more but I'm sticking to plan (I'm very rules-oriented, which is probably a good thing) and also didn't want to push it.

The oatmeal seemed to fill me up about the same as a Protein shake, though it was VERY nice to have some variety. My stomach seemed happy with it--no gurgling or anything (which I did get with Protein shakes early out--that has stopped now though). I used a little soy milk to make the oatmeal; next time I am going to add some Protein powder.

For a couple of days after surgery, it was difficult for me to get fluids and broth down, which I'm sure is normal. For the first week I did the burp-sip thing but never really felt restriction in my sleeve and was still getting in 60+ grams of protein (protein shakes) and 64 oz-plus of water/fluids.

The burping stopped a few days ago and I can take regular drinks of Water, like I could pre-op. I don't chug or take massive drinks just because I want to be gentle with my sleeve. But I can drink a 17-ounce bottle of water in 20 minutes or so if I focus on it while I'm working.

Let me say before I ask my question that I feel terrible for people who have complained that it's a struggle to drink water or other fluids or get down purees. I knew that feeling for a few days and it was awful--my heart goes out to you. Hopefully that will subside as time goes on.

With that said, I have sort of an opposite worry, which is that I hope I end up having enough restriction for this to really work!! Did others who didn't feel a lot of restriction early on or who don't really have it with fluids start getting it once you were eating solid foods? (or maybe even thicker purees, which I move to this weekend). I know I am being a worry wart, but it's difficult not to think ahead with everything that we all go through to adopt this new lifestyle.

Thank you for any advice or feedback that you have! :-)

Ok two questions are you cleared by your doc to eat all foods?

And how big was the burger? I mean burgers come in all sizes. :)

I def think it depends on the dr. Next week I will be starting phase three at 2 weeks out and my surgeon has cleared ground turkey and ground chicken for this stage, so the burger is plausible.

Frozen burger.. I tried to look in MFP but it doesn't give ounces.

Yes, definitely plausible. In fact not uncommon for five weeks out, I was asking just to get a general idea of her diet plan..

And about the burger if its in the 2 to 4 oz range doable! Yes some people only eat 2oz but some can handle a little more. So don't let that worry you! Just make sure to measure your food. And if its 4oz that's ok :) it's still a lot less than you were eating before?

Ok... well I have two types of frozen turkey burgers here and one is gigantic the other is small I! I eat the entire small one easy!! Do you have the brand ?

And as far as being hungry 3 to 4 hours later yes that is normal too!

I am almost 2 weeks post op and haven't started stage 3 yet but I'm starving!! I can't take anymore protein shakes, chicken broth or unflavored protein anymore! I just want some kind of food substance! Anyone else feel like this??

I am 5 weeks out and in the same situation as you. Very Little Restriction. Tonight for dinner I ate a turkey burger with a slice of cheese and no roll. I was able to eat the whole thing without any pain' date=' discomfort... I'm not too sure what to think....[/quote']

I'm 4 weeks out and can eat a turkey burger patty. Not a big deal.

I asked my nut if it was ok I could drink a lot 3 oz at a time . She said that it wasn't the drinking that could ever stretch your sleeve but overeating. Was she wrong?

Girl yes! Im on full liquids and have started yo get hungry often.

Thanks girls! I just can't even think about going through all of this and the doctor didn't take enough of my stomach.... The burger was a small one not big like hang over the bun big! HA!

My dr said that drinking could only stretch your stomach right after surgery - like the first dew daya (and even then it doesn't really stretch, but could stress it). Water won't stretch it, moves through there too fast.

Yep. Me too. I know it's all in my head but after the pre op clear liquid diet and then surgery on the 19th I'm ready for something that I can't see through!

It was a Philly Gourmet Turkey Burger. 20 grams of protein.

Where did you buy these turkey burgers ..it has good protein I could use

COSCO. Love that place!!
