Indiana Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I'm from Indy! Having the sleeve (hopefully soon) with Dr Diaz at StV in Carmel. I have my pre-op testing on May 24th and H & P June 3rd. From your experience, how soon after the testing were you scheduled for surgery?

I had pre-op testing the 14th of February and got my date the 25th. What's H&P?

History and physical. I think typically everything is in one day but for some reason mine is split into two. When you say the 25th was that your surgery day?

Oh, ok, yeah, that's what i thought it might be. My history was lumped in with my testing and I didn't have to do a physical.

No, the 25th was when I found out my surgery date, sorry, should have been clearer. My surgery date ended up being April 3rd. So January=insurance approval, Feb=testing, found out date, April = surgery.

Thanks for the info graylola! Sounds like from previous posts you're doing pretty good...congrats! How are you feeling overall? What support group(s) do you go to around town? And you liked Dr Diaz? I've only met him the one time briefly but he came highly recommended!

Stacy03, I have started attending the St. Vincent Support group they offer on the 1st $ 2d Tuesday of the month. It is very informative to hear from others in various stages of their journey. Have you been to one?

Stacey03 - Thanks! I've been very lucky, I feel awesome (except for the fact that as I become more active, I'm discovering sore muscles that I haven't felt in a while!!). I like Dr. Diaz a lot. He's very positive and caring. I go to my local support group every month - here in Terre Haute. I wish I was in Indy to take advantage of all the fitness and swimming classes they offer over there. But it's a good support group here with a good mix of pre and post op.

That's great newme!! So we are pretty much at the same point! After getting my insurance approval, I received a letter in the mail with my scheduled pre-op dates....the letter came about a week after I spoke with Shalanda. Which surgeon are you using?

Stacy03, I am with Dr. Evanson. I really like him. He said that he considered me a perfect candidate for the Sleeve and expects that I will drop my weight quickly. That was bet encouraging. I also signed up as a possible candidate for the activity study- so I hope that comes through. I see it as a good motivation to have my activity tracked pre and post op. :) I know it's too late for June, but I hope I can still get a July date! :)

Did they call you with possible date choices to schedule or did you just get a list of predetermined date/times

They just scheduled me and sent me a letter. I was surprised...was expecting a phone call to discuss scheduling. Once you get the letter it gives you a number to call if you need to change anything.

I was hoping for June also...but not looking like I'm going to make it. In that case you may beat me to getting sleeved. I am getting married Sept 1st and I have July 1 as a cutoff date for myself. If I have it closer than 2 months before my wedding, if be really worried I'd feel like crap that day and on my honeymoon. I wish I would have started the process sooner. Oh well :). I'll have it in October at the latest!

I'm sure scheduling for the different surgeons is different but I'll let you know how long after my pre-op I get scheduled so you'd have some idea! Let me know when you get scheduled for pre-op too!

Dr. Siatras?

Dr. siatras is the first surgeon I saw, he sent me to Dr. Selzer at IU Bariactric cause I'm facing a pancreas transplant. I really liked him.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
