Opinions Needed: Back from Vacation, Down 10 lbs!

Recommended Posts

Okay guys so I need to share this. I had been in a stall for about a month. I stayed true to my diet. Recorded everything I consumed every single day. Almost always got in my 70-80 grams of Protein and 64 oz. of fluids. Never eating more than 2 oz at a time.Treadmill 3 times a week.

I go to Hawaii for 10 days, and record nothing, still stay true to my diet as much as possible, but don't know if I got in the protein most days, and definitely not all the fluids. I did still take one shake a day, but I ate less while on vacation. The only thing I decreased substantially was my iced tea intake. I have 32 oz. at home everyday. I only drank tea two times in ten days. All this to say that when I came home, I was 10 lbs. lighter! SO now I'm trying to figure out if it was coincidence, not being on such a strict regimen, decreasing the iced tea, eating food instead of two shakes a day??? I need to figure it out so I can keep it going. I'm happy but also a bit confused because it seems like when I was doing everything right, the scale didn't move, and when I have no way of measuring or eating in the right intervals, I lose 10 pounds? Any thoughts on why the sudden loss?

Sometimes a shake up to your diet routine gets the scale moving again. Does your ice tea have sugar in it? Congratulations on the 10 pounds, no worries more to come!

I was on a long "stall" from Nov-Jan (mostly due to holiday eating, I think). I went on a 2 week all-inclusive trip to Mexico in mid-January where I ate and drank whatever I wanted (including liqueurs!). I did not record anything. I did however make a point of moving all day long! I was walking at least 15,000 steps per day (I took my Fitbit with me) and swimming, etc.

I lost approx. 2 lbs in 2 weeks (not alot, but considering everything I ate and drank, it's really good!). Then upon returning home I returned to my regular routine with eating, logging, prioritizing Protein, reducing carbs, etc. I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks!

I think sometimes the body just appreciates a "jolt" that changes things up. You may have been moving around alot more (ie. exercising without noticing!) while on vacation. That probably offset more of your eating than you realize. Also, the change in food types, timing, etc. probably also stimulated a change.

Is your Iced Tea diet? If not, 32 oz of regular Iced Tea has A LOT of carbs and calories, so cutting that back or out will also make a substantial difference.

As well, I dont' know how far post-op you are, but if you can consume more calories and Protein with real food vs. shakes, I would. It's a better more complete source of whole nutrition. Real food is easy to access wherever you are (if you can't find your particular brand/variety of shake, it can be upsetting!) and it will help you reestablish a more "normal" life routine. That being said, Protein Shakes and bars are very convenient and can be economical as a supplement when needed. But more for supplmement than as a nutritional foundation.

I guess that's all I've got for now........ :) :) :)

Maybe when you were on vacation you were truly 'listening' to your body, etc?

Thanks for your input ladies! I drink caffeinated tea with Splenda. I was a Diet Pepsi addict prior to surgery, so I needed to have something with caffeine to ease the loss of my soda.

I read that caffeine makes you retain Water, but I don't know if it's a significant amount. I also have beef Jerky a few times a week, and I did on my trip, as well. I know it has a lot of sodium, but it didn't seem to affect my weight loss.

My issue now is that I really don't want to give up my tea, but if that's the factor that helped me lose those 10 pounds, then I guess I will have to, or at least cut down....Oh, and I am 11 weeks out today.

Jerky was big for me too, lots of Protein, my nut scolded me for the sodium content and said that's why partly I was in this last stall. I miss it...

SPLENDA I would stop using that and try stevia or Honey. It has something to do with a chemical action in the body.

Also you shakes could have excess sugar in them

Also sometimes our body's just need a change. I know if I am in a stall and I have a few cheat days (try to eat more calories) I start to drop again.

Simple: I am trying to cut back on Jerky, too. Just another thing to give up:(

Delta: I've heard of some negative comments regarding splenda. I can't do honey because I'm a diabetic, however; I'm going to take your suggestion to heart regarding the other sweetener, thanks!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
