Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody. Today will be 10 days after surgery. When i should start walk. I still feel weak and no power.

Walk today/now. Take it slow. I started with just going to the end of the street and back. Add a little more each day and try to walk once in the morning and one at night. At 10 days out it is way too soon to worry about a 5k but any walking you do will help clear your lungs from surgery and help you build back your endurance.

Did W3D2 today, not as well as I wanted to mostly due to my muscles being sore from my powerflex class. I did finish though and will continue! Taking tomorrow off to repair since I can't walk up my stairs or get in my car without wanting to swear! Happy Labor Day Weekend all!

My husband just did w1d1 this morning! He is not sleeved and not obese but could stand to lose a few and get healthier. I'm proud of him even though I suspect we won't be able to run together because he will be faster than me!

My wife and I have had this issue about running together. When I started, she was an accomplished runner but had quit a few years earlier. She ran with me during c25k even though it was way too slow for her. At some point I surpassed her in distance but not in speed. So now we occasionally run together but it's an effort to compromise speed and distance.

I finished my C25K program yesterday. I am so thankful that I figured out how to get rid of the nagging knee pain that I've been having at the end of my runs. The 30min run was pretty easy. My plan now is to add 1 min on every run until I'm up to running 3 miles. I think my pace will put me around 40 min. It's amazing that even though I shortened my stride to get rid of the knee pain, my pace has improved because I increased my cadence. I don't feel like I'm struggling to run faster either. I'm really not trying to set any personal records or anything. I just want to be able to run the whole way.

My next 5K is the Disney Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run. My first 5K ever (in 2009) was the Royal Family 5K Disney run. I love the Disney runs.

Great improvement.....shorter strides and a faster cadence will not only reduce impact and injury, but is also more efficient. When I first started running I downloaded songs with the 180 beats per minute so I could run to the beat. It helped me maintain that fast cadence and short strides.

I just googled "songs with 180bpm" and I got several lists including this one....

http://running.about.com/od/musicforrunning/a/Running-Songs-At-180-Bpm.htm

But now the cadence is automatic with me so I can listen to anything I enjoy, but in the beginning having that music to run with was a great help. My feet would run with the music no matter the song.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
