Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Recommended Posts

Just got an email back from my doctor and my nut. They encourage me to go for it( my husband will work out with me too) and the worse that will happen is that I walk the 5k instead of running it. I'm 66 so this should be a challenge because I HATE to exercise except Water aerobics because that doesn't hurt. Hit 50 pounds lost today and had my massage as a treat yesterday!! Go for it!

Congratulations on both the 50 and joining us in the 5K challenge.

Are people tracking on their iphones or what are you doing?? My nut starts the training on March 18 for a 5k on May 11th. I can start early. Got up to 2.9 on the treadmill but afraid to let go and try and run on it. HA!! Carol

Do they have a Wimp to 5k? I started yesterday and only made it through 10 minutes. My legs hurt all afternoon and this morning. But Wimps of the World unite! I shall wimp onward!!!

I'm afraid to run on the treadmill!!! Got to 2.9 today which is the highest I've gone since my surgery!

Carol it was the first time I've ran on a treadmill, but it was fairly easy, you decide how fast to run and it's only for 60 seconds at a time to start.

Did you still have to hold on to the treadmill? I can't walk without the support. HA!

Before I started the program I was walking for a couple of weeks until I got up to a brisk walk for 5k without feeling like I was going to die! Then the next week I kicked off c25k.

Good luck!

I'm so happy for all of y'all brave enough to tackle running. When you're obese, running can be one of the most daunting forms of exercise. But conquer that, and there will be nothing you can't do. BTW, here's what it's going to look like when you're done.

Here's one I really like...very simple but highly effective. Goes a long way toward preventing injuries.

I love reading this topic. I'm am getting psyched for my C25K class to start on Thursday!! I've continued to walk/run/walk/run on the treadmill. The instructor for the class said our last class will be to run a 5K! I got a little panicked because I too have a 'fear' of running outside. So toady while walking my 3 dogs I decided to try running a little - I checked first there was no one around outside. Note to self - do not try that again with the dogs! They're small, they got so excited and they kept cutting in front of me. But - at least I faced my fear about outside. Next time I walk along ocean I will try the walk/ run thing there. Pride be damned!!

I run with my dogs quite often but yes, it adds a whole other layer of difficulty. Better to get comfortable by yourself first. Then try 1 dog at a time. For more than one, I find a splitter with 1 leash much better than a leash on each dog. That way they have to stay together and they will simply run as a pack.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
