FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

Recommended Posts

Hi All...

It's apparent that I haven't been here since the start of May. My avi still says its my birthday month!

Sigh...I have a meeting tomorrow with the NUT! scale is going up. As of yesterday, it went down but I need it to continue to go that way!

Having a hard time planning a meal that gives me my daily Protein totals without snacking! UGH!

Hope all of Fab Feb Sleevers are making it happen for them!

Hang in there. Your nut can get you back on track :) I was sleeved on 2/18, and have done pretty good until yesterday. My boss brought me a big piece of cake with buttercream frosting. I should have thrown it away, but instead I picked at it until I ate all of it. Then for dinner we had pizza, and I felt that old mentality of "well you've already screwed the day up" creeping back into my brain, and I ate a piece of pizza :( I went to bed stuffed and so mad at myself. Today is a new day and a fresh start!

I was sleeved Feb. 19, and surgery went well. However, since then, it's been one thing after another. I was home for 5 days, wound up with gout in both feet and ankles....5 more days in the hospital. Eating and drinking still going ok at this point, and weight coming off. Got home for 3 weeks, went back to work for one week, gallbladder decided to act up, wound up back in hospital for removal and developed sepsis (blood infection). Back home after a week, still off work, and I can't get down, or keep down Proteins. I can eat Popsicles, frozen yogurt (sometimes), Water is difficult to get down, and I don't know what to do. Saw surgeon and he scoped me and straightened out a kink in my stomach, but things are not a whole lot better. I'm weak and discouraged!

Is anyone else having these problems? How do I handle them? I'm scared to death to get dehydrated again, but I know I'm only getting less than 5 grams of Protein or so in a day, and that doesn't always stay down. Suggestions??

I have yet to throw up. Got close one time but haven't yet. I am now experiencing Hair loss but I'm not too worried bc I have alot of thick hair so II have some to spare. I finally got out of a stall today and hit 219. I was sleeved on 2/19 so I was thrilled to hit this weight finally. I have my 3 month follow up on Monday. I am going to have to get rid of clothes soon bc they are fitting me too big now. So happy about that. can't wait to hit onederland.

I go Monday for my 3 month follow up too! I wanted to be under 200 so badly! I weighed 204.4 this morning. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen :( I've not been under 200 in more than 30 years!!!

Hello fellow Sleevers. I enjoy reading everyone's posts, and the trials and tribulations of all the changes happening to our bodies. It is nice knowing that I am not alone. I was sleeved in Tijuana on Feb. 9. I started out at 282 pounds, and am now down to 217, which is a loss of 65 pounds (includes pre-op). Although I had a range of 3 sizes in my closet, very few things fit me anymore. It seems like body changes everyday!

It has not been an easy journey for me... I developed a complication of surgery which was a blood clot in my liver, and have begun anti-coagulant therapy. I knew there was a problem when I returned to Canada, as I was in more pain than I was after surgery. It took a month to diagnose, and was only caught because of a CT scan. I ended up being off work for 2 months. This condition requires a lot of extra care and doctoring, but things seem to be getting better.

My weight loss seems to go in fits and spurts. I will lose rapidly for several days, then stall out. Every time my medication gets increased, I seem to stall out for a while. I, too stalled out at 4 weeks, which was a combination of the complication, medication, and change from liquids to solids. I have only had two incidents of vomiting, once early on because I ate too fast, and once a few weeks ago, but I believe that was an allergic reaction. My hair fell out a lot right before surgery, and occasionally it does now, but it's nothing I'm worried about.

I had difficulty with Protein Shakes, and I think I would rather starve before I ever touch another one of those shakes again. EVER!!! I started eating eggs at 3 weeks, and eased into soft foods and solids way ahead of schedule, but I couldn't get my Protein any other way, and was tired of how sweet everything seemed to be. I am not always good at getting in my Water and protein, but I do manage at least 1 litre of water, and about 40g of protein. I don't count calories, I pretty much eat whatever I want within reason, and never more than about 3/4 cup. I rarely snack between meals, and I go nowhere without a bottle of water. I have a soy, nut, and seafood allergy, so this limits a lot of food choices, as does not being able to have green leafy vegetables until the anticoagulant therapy is done in a few months. The more time goes by, the less issues I have tolerating foods. I still have not tried steak, but seem to be doing well with most things. Anything with artificial sweeteners make me ill. I stay away from bread and Pasta as much as I can, and try to stick to protein and produce. I have had treats along the way, but small amounts and usually only once or twice a week. I had soft ice cream for lunch on Monday! I am relearning how to cook for the new me. i am rarely bothered by hunger anymore, but still have trouble remembering to slow down when I eat. I don't think I'll ever get used to the no drinking and eating at the same time.

I have a congenital spinal issue which caused me a great deal of pain, and was the motivating factor for having the sleeve surgery. I have been able to cut out all pain medication, with the exception of occasional use of extra-strength tylenol. My blood pressure is now on the low side of normal instead of the high side of normal. I try to walk about 15 km a week, go to aquafit twice a week, and don't experience any pain when walking. Moving feels great!

I still have a long ways to go, and sometimes I get frustrated because it doesn't seem like it's happening fast enough. Sometimes it's hard to focus on how far I've already gone. I am anxiously awaiting my passage into "onederland", which is 17 pounds away. So close, yet so far away! I have encountered some interesting judgements about my decision to have surgery, particularly in the medical field, but those close to me are very supportive. Sometimes people give compliments that really don't seem like compliments, but that's ok. They don't my journey and I don't know theirs. I will continue to enjoy the rest of my journey, wherever it leads me.

The first picture was the day before surgery, and second one was at the end of April, so about 11 weeks later.

Take care all. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing your story! That is a scary complication and it reminds me to be ever thankful that I've been complication free! You are doing great! I often read about people getting negative judgement over their decision to have weight loss surgery. I've not experienced that so far. Mostly people have been surprised but supportive. I'm very tall though, 6'1", so maybe they just don't want to mess with me! LOL! Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

My 3 months post-op appt with my doc is next week. Today my scale says 196....hope his scales concurs. Want to document in my medical records that I hit onederland. My pre-op and post-op weight loss total is 60 pounds...although I seem to have hit my first stall. Like many who have posted here, I still struggle getting all my Protein and Water in. It's a full time job...and I already have one of those...lol.

Sleeved 2/26 and doing great. But you can STILL see the light red square mark where the tape was that kept my post-incision dressing on (over the drain tube hole). I changed the dressing and tape a couple times daily, and only had it on for about 5 days total right after surgery. The tape itched like a mofo.

I can still see mine a little too (from around the drain hole). I also changed mine 1 to 2x/day. I think I was allergic to the adhesive on the bandage. it is fading a bit after 14 weeks....

You probably have an electrolyte imbalance. Try drinking some Gatorade. I have a slow resting pulse too but mine's always been that way. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I was very dehydrated

I went to ER on Thursday night. They pumped in 2 bags of IV fluids

I feel so much better!

My heart rate is still low, but doing pretty good getting liquids in again.

I don't know why, the further I get dehydrated, the harder it is to get in my liquids.

I have a followup today with my family dr and I go to the cardiologist next friday. I am anxious to see what the holter monitor showed.

While I was at the ER, the monitor kept going off because my heart rate was too low

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
