December Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am decided to use Dr. Ortiz and and trying to get a surgery date of Dec. 17 or 18. I am just waiting for my funding. Dr. Ortiz sounds fantastic! I have actually talked to someone who wen to him and they had nothing but great things to say!

He has a lot of experience too. I am so ready to do this. I have actually only been on this board for about two weeks and researching lapband for about the same time. But,, I have been watcing my friend who has had hers for a year. She also did hers in Mexico with Dr. Pedro Herrera Terrazas. I remember when she first told me she went to Mexico and I couldn't believe it. But, I see now it was only my own ignorance then. Who's to say doctors in other countries are not as good or better than the US? I guess it is just an automatic stereotype people do including myself until I really looked into it and educated myself.

I am a lower bmi patient 5'5 and 185. If I am not on a low carb diet and constantly dieting, I easily gain. I am sure I have gained 5 pounds since Thanksgiving since i am not doing low carb. I am eating everything in moderation, since I know I won't be able to eat certain foods for a while and some permanently.

The problem is, what I think is moderation, is in actuality a lot I guess. When I have counted calories, I underestimate what I really eat.

Looking forward to being a part of this group!

Hello again...feeling a little hungry and like I would like to hurt something but other than that I am doing great.lol.

gonaloseweight- hang in there and don't let other peoples negativity effect you. Experiences are directly inflenced by attitute - so if you have a great attitude you will have a great experience. The best part is, you are in control of you attitude. Other times when I have lost weight I have let other peoples attitudes rub off on me and sabotoge my success....no more! This is for me and only me, and if someone is not positive about it I am no longer listening to negativity! Everything is going to go great for you!

Baby got back....looking forward to hearing if your funding goes through. Thanks for the message! Bye for now!

Well everybody this is it I go in Monday at 6am for my surgery. I have joined curves (have I said that before?) I have lost 12 lbs and 8 inches over all. I haven't been great about the liquid diet but I have been using the Protein Drinks for 2 meals a day. I have had to stop my insulin already because my sugar has dropped so low but I am still taking my oral med. I am so glad I found this site everyone is so supportive. It has taken me a year to get this into play but it is going to be worth it in the long run. Well I will Write more later. Thanks to all of you.

good luck Carol - I'm only a week behind you - are you excited? I'm struggling with the pre-op - RIGHT NOW - I just drank my first protien drink but I have the urge to binge ... on anything. I just ate a rice cake and some salsa hoping that would take the edge off but its still there, I'm not even hungry.. just want to eat.

deep breath sweetie. Don't let you food be a "super Hero" -- that is how I've always seen mine. To me... my cholcolate cake could cure cancer and tap dance on broadway. My food was ALL powerful!

But it isn't and just think about all the guilt you would have after. It really isnt that great. Our brains just think it is... stay strong my december sister!!

get a huge bottle of Water and just keep drinking all day. It helps to have something in your hand and in your mouth... Water wont hurt you. It will help with the mental cravings

luv ya girl!! you can do it.:clap2:

Oh man Carol! I am so excited for you! You will be in ALL of our thoughts on Monday all day long. I know you'll be safe and in good hands. Can't wait to hear about your banding experience.

I had my pre-op workshop today. I'm officially on the medically supervised diet starting tomorrow. They encouraged us to go out and get a "last meal" - and I had a guilt-free turkey reuben. I'm drinking Water right now and am mentally prepared to lose 15 - 20 pounds in the next 2 weeks.

I have gotten back to my initial weight from my first visit 3 months ago. In other words I have already lost 9 pounds. I have another 20 to go. *sigh* I am going to work it OUT!

I've got the eye of the tiger!

HOpe you're all having a fabulous day!

How do I get my picture up by my name? I went to the page to make a signature and uploaded a picture. Does it have to get approval first to get on or go on right away or did I just do it wrong? Thanks, Audree

Hi Audree -

At the top of the page there's a blue menu bar. It's under the LapBandTalk.com banner.

User CP stands for User Control Panel. If you click it, you can add your avatar, profile picture and signature.

Welcome!

Evathenurse - we need to talk! I'm going to PM you.

Nathalie

Hi NG Adams! I did that (I think)! Down on the bottom of the page where it says browse, I put the code in and my picture did pop up after I reviewed it, my picture showed up. I was thinking that maybe the moderator of this page has to okay it first???

Thanks for your help! Audree

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
