December Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I know the liquid thing is hard but just do the best that you can. Its your husbands shift that has you feeling like that. Its hard to live in different schedules. I've been there more then once - and then there are times when he works out of town - those weeks I don't cook, I don't clean and I only do what has to be done. LOL Ok so I take advantage of not having to be responsible. But maybe you need to do a craft or something - I don't know what you like to do but if you start something and tell yourself I want to get this done before I go in for my surgery it'll push you to do it. My goal for today is to clean my bathroom and mudroom - really clean them good. And then next week when I'm home from the hospital and not feeling like doing anything then I won't have to worry about them getting cleaned. Set little goals for yourself each day. I like to do crafts and to read but I just can't get my mind to focus on anything but being banded. So the house cleaning will have to do.

Since you've been in Germany have you been to any of the castles? Or gone site seeing? I would love to visit Europe - maybe that will be my long term goal. LOL

Hi Everyone! Glad to hear there are a few more Dec bandsters. You all help me so much by just sharing your feelings. It helps me to know that what I am feeling is 'normal' and that everything is going to be just fine.

Thanks for your support!

Have any of you bought your liquid or chewable vitamins yet? I stood for 15 minutes in the Vitamin aisle the other day and left without buying any. There were alot of childrens chewable and only Centrum adult chewables and I didn't want to put $8 out there if they taste horrible. I've always had an adversion to Vitamins, just the smell nauseates me. YUK! But I will do what I have to do and vitamins are on the list of to dos.

Hello Fellow Dec banders,

I was banded this morning at 9:00 am est. I was supper nervous when I got there, my heart was pounding and I was sweating especially when they put my IV in. I was glad my husband was there to keep me company until I went into the OR. He helped keep my calm and focus on the goal. Once I went into the OR, the next thing I know...was nothing...I was out like a light and what seemed like 5 minuets later I was waking up. Mostly my throat was hurting and I was coughing allot. I felt woosy and sore and tired but that was about it. My husband drove me home. I had some ice Water and suar free life savors to suck on-those were very helpful on the throat. Then I went to sleep for about 2 hours. I am now up and have had some broth and ice Water. I do feel so much better than on the way home but I will take it easy. i have tomorrow off but back to work on thursday.

Carol453, were you also banded today? How is it going? I have had no problem getting down about 1/2 cup of broth. I hope you can start to get more fluids and stuff down. I think that has helped with my energy level.

Itsuptome, are you home yet? let me know how it went. I am so glad this part is over and now the healin can begin.

starting weight 245.5, 47%BF

(((Carol))) and (((Hermosa))))

I am so glad you guys made it through okay!

Thanks for checking in. On a level of 1-10, 10 being the worst, what is your pain like? I am curious. Can you tell me how the anesthesia was? I am so nervous about that!

Hermosa, you seem to be home so soon. Did you both have day surgery. My surgery is an overnight stay. I am not sure what the usual is. I am glad you are both doing okay.

Steph, did you ask about Vitamins? I bought the CVS chewable "Spectravite". They are okay. They don't make me gag and at this point I am tolerating them fine.

On a side note, I lost 6 pounds this week at weightwatchers. I am kicking butt at the gym plus I had my TOM last week which may account for a bigger loss this week (all that lovely retained fluid). I have officially lost the 10 pounds required for my surgery and am down 17 or so pounds. I am very excited. Onward and downward.

For those of you on Protein shakes, can you tell me what you are drinking. I think I have asked before but now the time is getting nearer. I had an unjury vanilla shake today which was okay and a Designer whey chocolate shake which seemed okay too. I tried a low card SlimFast last week which was the most disgusting thing I ever had. It tasted like a can of chemicals!!!

Kaydotrn,

Ccongrats on your pre-op weight loss! That's amazing.

Yes, I thought I was leaving soon too but I am so glad I am home in my own environment much more than being at the hospital. I have been reading many of the posts on this site and it seems as though there are many variations in the pre-op diet and instructions to how long in the hospital etc... I guess every surgeon has there own way they like to do things. I was also a self-pay so I am not sure if that has anything to with it?? Considering I feel pretty good I am glad I didn't have to pay to for an overnight.

The anestiology wan't so bad. I have very small veins and usually have a hard time finding a vein. The nurse was great she felt around with her hand on several areas, found a good spot and even gave me quick shot to numb it since she said the vein was deep and she was going to have to "dig". Sounds bad but I really didn't feel anything since she numbed it. Then once I was in the OR, I layed day and they started hooking monitors up it seemed cold but they put really nice warm blankets on me and leg warmers with pumps to help with the circulation. Then they had me breath through a mask and take deep breaths saying I would get sleeping...then bam it was over and i waking up! That's all I remember. So I wouldn't worry about it. I felt very groggy when I woke up but even right now, I feel good. Not sure, but that is probably part of the med, but that is fine wiht me.

Also, for the Vitamins I am taking children's flinestones.

Good luck, I hope this helps and let us know how it goes.

So, is my family right? am i taking the easy way out? They feel that I am doing this for no reason, and that I can lose the weight on my own. They think that if I can eat like that with the band then I can make the choice to eat that way without it.

I feel like such a weak minded failure. Am I just giving up?

I tried to tell them that it was not EASY. I tried to tell them it was not a diet... it was a way of life, and it would help me keep the weight off... not just lose it.

They said you lost the weight before... I said which is why I can lose it again, and the band will help me keep it that way.

They said they thought that I was too mentally stressed right now to be able to handle it. I told them that HALF of my stress came from their lack of support, and by supporting me it would ensure my success.

Their final word was, "You're making a huge mistake."

I am so exhuasted. I just want to crawl into bed and pull the covers over my head.

I am sooo tired of having them try to make me not believe in myself and my decision.

I just needed to vent. They make me so sad sometimes.

Beversman,

That is too bad your family is not supporting you. When I first started looking into the surgery (8 months ago), my husband said the same thing thinking I could do it on my own. I took him to several of the informational meetings and do reseach with me on the web. He did start to see that this is a tool not a cop-out. How long have you been looking into it? Maybe trying to get your family involved in the process instead of just telling them about it, they will start to get it. I do hope so because even if you get a couple people to support you it will help you calm down and focus on the goal. Best of luck. I hope this helps.

Hi everyone! I am due to have surgery on the 27th of this month as well. Thankfully, all of my family has been extremely supportive. They actually, were excited when I told them I was finally approved. They know I have struggled and I have other medical conditions and they want me to be healthy. Beversman, I'm sorry your family is not in support. You know what you have tried and failed to do, and lets face it, do they really think you WANT to have surgery. If you think it's right, then it is. You'll be ok and you'll know in your heart that it is what is best for you. Hugs to you!

I bought the Centrum Silver chewables--fruit flavor. Not bad. If I didn't like them I would have bought the kids ones. I have tried the Centrum orange chewable in the past and did not like them, but these were completely different.

Hello - I am having surgery this afternoon at 4pm. I have been on the liquid diet for 4 days and will be really happy to not feel hungry. I am actually waiting for the insurance company to give me final approval by noon today.

Has anyone else had any issues with waiting on last minute insurance apporval?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
