don't let anyone fool you. recovery is awful.

I am in the hospital , day after surgery. This had been the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. A million times west than child birth. Please be seater that recovery is painful. Dr said mine went perfect. It only took an hour an 15. Since I got out of the operation I have thought u did I do this to myself when will this pain end. When will I be able to take a few sops without dry heaving so intense that it feels like my inside a are being ripped out. I'm hoping a well will pad and I'll start too feel better. I am not trying to talk anyone out of this I just want people top be prepared.

Indeed.. I know one person that did it and she said it was not easy but bareable and each day gets better. I agree with you and thanks for replying... I know it wont be a walk in the park at the beginning because it is a serious surgeru eventhough its not as extreme as the others. people get cut and parts of organs are cut out.. steppin on a nail is painful so gettin holes poked inside you and partial organs gettin takn out will without a doubt be pain and for someone to think not is silly :) sorry at work not proof read this

ABSOLUTELY!?! I most certainly agree! I'm also beginning to think that American drs over medicate, over inflate gases, over anesthetize and over charge. Personally, I would never in my life take Morphine, Demerol and even Vicodin for laparoscopic surgery. Don't get me wrong, I love Morphine, but that was only when I was in a MVA and fractured my sternum and femur and required over 200 staples to put my humpty dumpty body together. (Sheesh.. Talk about a reason some don't have a BM for a week or two.. Get of meds and get things flowing again.)

Anyway, pardon me for getting off subject and replying to a response instead. That said..jujubeesmamas.. I'm sorry you're going through this pain and wish you weren't.

I must mention that instead of saying, don't let them fool you this surgery is very painful.. Perhaps, you should reword it and say, this surgery CAN BE very painful for some. I didn't have any pain what so ever with any of my 6 laparoscopic WLS procedures. Like Mason and others have said it all depends on the drs and the patient.

Good luck and hang in the and YES.. Walk walk walk ASAP . I was up the same day as my surgery. The faster you start to walk off the anesthesia and gases the faster it will go away

Wow, you must be superior to all of us who relied on pain meds to some extent after surgery. Forgive me for being so weak as to have been in pain after they cut out most of my stomach and yanked it out of a small hole in my side. I did hurt for the first five days, and yes, I took morphine in the hospital as needed (there was a shortage of Dilaudid) and percoset when I came home. This was such a condescending post I am nearly speechless.

OP, I hope you feel better soon. Despite posts like the one above, there's not shame in taking medications that help you feel more comfortable. The less pain you are in, the faster you will heal.

Sheesh...Kendra, really? As I said before, some are lucky with the pain and some are not. As you can read in my original post.. I'm ecstatic that I was fortunate to be pain free through my surgeries. Because of being pain free it would be ridiculous for me to want it.

I sincerely apologized if my words were taken wrong... because I certainly didn't mean it that way... Why are you dragging it out to be something it's not?

I think everyone responds to surgery different. Some have worse than others. And when reading about others experiences we have to remember that just because so and so had no pain Doesn't mean I am or I'm not going to. I haven't had surgery yet and I pray I have , a smooth recovery. That's all I can do. I fear the worse of course.

As for the OP I'm sorry you are struggling. My best friend who has a high tolerance of pain had tons of pain after her sleeve surgery she compared it to being hit by a semi truck. She also had dry heaves (I spelled that , wrong). And threw up a lot. Hopefully things will get better for you soon

I have had four surgeries, two abdominal and each one was different in terms of pain and recovery. I had a splenectomy (laprascopic) in 2006 and the pain was awful so when I had my gallbladder out (also laprascopic) in 2010, I was very apprehensive. The gallbladder was virtually pain free. I have been told by more than one person that sleeving is less painful than gallbladder surgery. I am scheduled for Monday and appreciate everyone's story. Whatever happens, I am trying to stay positive and meet this as it comes.

I've had kidney stones 3 times and last summer I had my gallbladder removed and a D&C on same day. 2 weeks later I had a colonoscopy and my left ovary removed on same day. 2 weeks later I had a full hysterectomy. Was back at work one week later. I think I got this.
