Hair loss blues...baldness

Recommended Posts

I lost a bunch of hair 5-6 months after major surgery 18 months ago- it freaked me out but grew back. I am not looking forward to losing it again, however....I do tell myself it is only hair, and many people have lost theirs for more serious reasons than WLS....helps me to keep it in perspective.

excellent point!! thank God it is for WLS, not something else

Between month 4 and 8 I lost about half of my hair. Then the hairloss stopped.

For the past 3 weeks I was on holiday, added carbs to my diet, didnt track my Protein and the hair is falling out worse than before. This morning I almost flooded the bathroom as I didnt notice the hair completely blocking the shower. The kids have also started commenting on my flying hair again.( when the a/c is on in the car the hair is flying out of my head and it really bugs my kids...lol)

This was quite unexpected as I did eat some Protein with most meals.

Focussing on protein again now and will start taking Biotin again. But other than that there is nothing much we can do but wait for it to grow back.

Desertmom,

If I remember correctly, you are living in the Gulf region. Here in Lebanon Biotin is given by injection, once a day for a month. I've just finished my injections. Do you have the pill form there?

I feel like the Hair loss has slowed down, but I'm afraid that since I've stopped the injections it will pick back up.

When does it usually start? In a week it will be 4 months sleeved & so far I haven't experienced that yet. I have a lot of hair & keep checking but so far nothing.

Most of what I have read is that people noticed between 3 and 9 months the worst of it.

I get about 60 grams of Protein per day do you think upping it to 80 will help prevent hair loss? I am taking 5' date='000 Biotin religiously. My hair was thin to begin with and I am just reaching the three month mark and am afraid the loss is going to worsen. It has definitely been coming out already but if it gets worse I can't imagine. So wondering if I should up the Protein. I get about 600 - 700 calories a day.[/quote']

I'm honestly not sure upping it will do much. If its going to happen it will. I'm taking Biotin everyday since month 1 and have 70+ protein on most days and starting from month 5 I started losing. Luckily I haven't noticed it looks too different but I shed like crazy! I think also lightening my hair is helping it be less noticeable.

Well it is great to see a discussion about this as I have asked WHEN does the Hair loss usually stop for people and have never received a straight answer. This has been a great thread with the information I was looking for.

My journey has been that my hair loss started 2 months post op. I am now 6 month out and it is still happening. I THINK it might be slowing down now, but I will keep you posted as more than I would like still comes out when I wash or brush it. But maybe ever so much less the last few times??

Anyway, I notice a significant difference in my hair but my family and friends say they can't tell. I don't believe them because it has been a dramatic change in my hair....less and the stuff that is growing back is so much thinner and "wispier". Wispy is how I would describe it.

Now I USED to have this amazing mane.

People would compliment me all the time about my hair......

Well THAT has stopped so how is it that there is no difference then?

I KNOW that I feel at least half of my hair gone when I pull it back into a ponytail....so don't try to tell me you can't notice!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway the bottom line is...it really just doesn't matter in the whole scheme of things!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so happy with my weight loss and feel freaking fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like my hair right now but I am hoping it will grow back and all will be right in that department. But even if ti doesn't.....I am OK with that.

I LOVE my new body and would not change that for some strands of hair!!!!!!!

I am not sure if anything we do will change the outcome of hair loss. I think if you are going to lose it you do.....and some just don't. NOTHING you do will stop or prevent it from happening.

Yes Protein is important as a building block for all cell growth and imperative to intake any day of your life...for all your body's needs.......but the Biotin and Nioxin and this and that....did nothing for me....NOTHING...I think it just has to run its course.

The course is apparently 6-9 months of hellish hair loss......so hang on and get ready if you are one of us unfortunate ones that is doomed to lose the hair!!!!!!

Just remember how beautiful you feel on the inside and how much you love what you are seeing in the mirror too!

I know that everybody has different information on Hair loss after vsg. I am 4 months post op and I started noticing hair loss at about 3 months. Mine isn't as severe as some but it is significant for me. I can tell that I have lost some volume in my hair.

I read an article that stated the loss will start around 3 - 4 months, then regrowth will start around 6-8 months and that at about a year hair loss should stop. Maybe that will help. I know that everybody is different so this time table may be completely off but just thought I would share. I am hoping mine will start regrowing in another month or so.

Good luck and God bless!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
