Ounces? Volume or weight?

Recommended Posts

Sleeved in the 28th....hate to sound stupid but hadn't thought about it before...if I can eat say 2 ounces of food....is that weighed or is that by volume like say measuring it in a measuring cup?

My dietician says it's volume, and instructed me to use a measuring cup.

volume like say measuring it in a measuring cup?

ladyhummingbird

my NUT told me to use the "volume"

After the sleeve procedure, your stomach can only hold so much volume. This volume is much less than before surgery.

You food has to be measured by the amount of space it will take up in your sleeve.

It's the old "feathers vs. cannon ball" saying. How much space is taken up by 2 oz of feathers vs. the space taken up by 2 oz of cannon ball.

You can put a 2 oz weight of feathers in your stomach but there is probably not enough space to hold it.

You can put a 2 oz weight of cannon ball in your stomach and there will be room to spare.

good luck :)

I am Almost 4 months out and now use a scale to measure solids. I never asked my nut about this though so I might have to give her a call....

Not to sound like a complete idiot but how do you measure ounces of meat?!

Three ounces is about the size of a deck of cards.

Hmm i'm 3 wks out and have been using a scale for meat. So i measure 2 oz of chicken on the scale then blender it to puree. So in order to use a measuring cup, do you blender it and then measure 2 oz?

I eyeball it. Three ounces is the size of a pack of cards, so from that I guesstimate what two ounces is.

I have a fancy scale from William & Somoma and lots of measuring cups, but I don't use them. I pay very close attention to my body. I'm conservative when I eat and let my body teach me. I have counted calories as my measure. What I have discovered is that in my early weeks with 400/500 calories ... Now is similar with my body signals. I'm still at around 400/600 calories. But you will find what works best for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
