Gastric Sleeve Revision - Jan. 23, 2013

Recommended Posts

Hi all-My name is Tad. I live in Orange County, Ca. In July, 2007, I had my lap band surgery. I have lost over 160 pounds! However, I have had some complications and will be having conversion surgery to a gastric sleeve January 23, 2013. There is no erosion, so conversion will take place in one surgery. Just wanted to hear the experiences of others. Tad

Welcome :)

160 lbs down - 25 lbs til goal - congrats on your amazing weight loss :)

many people who had the lapband gained weight back - glad that didn't happen to you - you will be so happy with your sleeve :)

you will hear wonderful stories from sleevers - "maybe" a couple of valid "problems" from others - but you know risks that come with any surgeries :(

IMO - good, good & more good is the only word to be associated with the sleeve :)

i'm continueing to enjoy my new life with the sleeve - losing diabetes/insulin-high blood pressure meds, sleep apnea et al

one year surgiversary - joining century club, - and GOAL!!!

you will love your sleeve!! you know how to deal with the eating, drinking et al - so your conversion should be a piece of cake

your new sleeve will help you lose your final weight, then lead to continued success in your future :)

best of luck

happy new year :)

Hi - I had my lap band with Blue Cross / St. Joseph's Bariatric. I now have Kaiser. Dr. Edward Mun will be performing the surgery in Jan. They have a bariatric surgical center in Harbor City.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. The more I speak to people who have the sleeve the more I find out how successful the procedure is for most. Thanks!

Thank you for the kind words. Congratulations on your weight loss. I am so looking forward to my conversion. I have been successful with the band, but believe the sleeve will lead to a lifetime of health!

Hi Tad!

My surgery is the 10th! I'll let you know how it goes!

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. Labs and EKG next week. Pre-op with surgeon next Friday. Education class on the 9th and surgery on the 10th.

I'm freaking out a little!

Dr. Mun is doing my revision also. I'm having it done on Jan 15th. Good luck with everything.

LOL, yes he is. As for the hospital stay, I had my surgery at 2 pm on the 27th, and was home by 1 pm on the 28th. The recovery was a breeze. I had minimal pain and was out and about by the 29th. I dislike the puree stage, I can't wait for soft foods, but he said no soft food until 8 weeks! =/ 3more weeks of baby food, ugh.

Ok cool..I see this revision is going to be harder than having the lap band. Dr. Mun is strict when it comes to the diet. Oh well, it'll be worth it at the end.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
