6 Days Post-Op... So Many Questions?

Recommended Posts

I didn't realize how many questions I would have until I read some threads.

I also had so many reservations after the 1 st day because of all the pain from my chest and the gas. It has eased day by day. I also I'm being tricked by hunger pains, but know its in my head. I'm finding it very difficult to get in all the fluids and Protein. All the fruity Protein Drinks are so sweet and not great tasting. I used to really only drink Water. My post up check up is o. Tuesday.

What is wrong with having a piece of chocolate now and then?

What about wine? Not that I am looking to drink now, but I did like an occasional glass here and there?

Does anyone drink Muscle Milk Light?

WLS: 11/26/12.

Weight before surgery: 284lb

I love this site.

Sandy

Also why should you not use a straw?

I can't tell you for sure about the chocolate or wine, but I know the no straw is due to air. Sucking through a straw will cause you to take in air bubbles; just trying to keep you from having the air. Good luck with everything! :)

Using a straw get more air in your tummmy therefore more gas. I have triede Muscle milk light pre-op its okay but not my favorite. I drink Premiere Protein Shakes from Sams Club Or costco 30g Protein each taste is good.

My Dr. Gave me a cup with a straw, he likes straws. He said the only reason I shouldn't use a straw is if I don't like them. He said its easier to sip with a straw so I will drink more through out the day. In didn't ask about wine, but no chocolate because of the sugar and caffeine.

I use the Muscle Milk light 100 calorie when I need a quick grab and I like them! They are easy for me to drink in the car on the way to work!

I drink the muscle milk light.... I prefer them to the Atkins Protein drinks. I had a glass of wine after thanksgiving meal & I was fine (I was 3 weeks out from surgery at the time). I think all this if trial & error. Try different things to see if they agree w you.

I had MML in the hospital and they were too sweet for me. I like the Premier brand best.

Like the OP said, that it mostly trial and error to see what you can tolerate. Right now I am still on liquids until Tuesday, but I've had some Soups and they seem to be fine. Just remember a "small" piece of this or that, not a "whole" piece of this or that.

I'm using a straw now, but early on it was a no no because of the air it pushed into your newly reformed stomach.

Definitely love Premiere from costco the best for prepared and bluebonnet from Amazon.com for powder. I have been using a straw since about a week post op- it's much easier for me to get in my fluids. If you're craving chocolate, Creamy Bites calcium chews are calcium citrate and super yummy. I have been taking them from time to time for a pick me up - even pre-op.

I am 5 days out and would love to use a straw! I have a really great blender/juicer that can make just about anything into a liquid. I am also looking forward to soft foods. Each day is definitely better than the day before! I actually celebrated my first bowel movement today. Hallelujah!!

I have chocolate Muscle Milk Light every morning (even at 5 months post-op)...8 oz before going to the gym, and 8 oz after the gym. Personally, I love it, and look forward to it...my daily chocolate milk fix! :)

My surgeon's recommendation is to not drink alcohol after surgery...and I intend to follow his suggestion.

I have 1 piece of chocolate every day....but its sugar-free chocolate (usually a sugar-free Russell Stover chocolate mint patty....they're wicked yummy!). I also have a "chocolate brownie" Quest bar, for an evening snack every day...170 calories, 20 grams of Protein, low carb, and (I think) very tasty. Those are my true "treat"....I look forward to 8pm every day!! :)

Hey! Me Too! I am thrilled with it! I got it about a week before surgery. I threw some superfoods (spinach, kiwi, kale, carrot, fig and cancer Hateing cabbage) in it this morning. I truly want to take full advantage of this gift of health that has been given to me.

Thank you all for the helpful hints. Tonight I started drinking some muscle milk light because I didn't / couldn't stomach drinking the awful cytomax Protein Drink. It satisfied me and so far so good.

I'm grateful there are so many of you that I can go through this journey with. I have not told many people except for immediate family. I just don't need the questions etc.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
