Help! Stomach Cramps & Spasms

Recommended Posts

Had surgery feb 2012, the past few months I've experienced wicked stomach spasm cramping on average once a week.

Sometimes after I've eaten and sometimes before I've eaten early in the morning.

My dr has no advice for me! Just says lay down and use a eating pad, which works great but I'm not always some place I can lay down with a heating pad.

Most of the time it starts out as bad spasm cramping and I'll puke (always acid type liquid) just a little like spitting up some Water and it'll subside a little but still lasts an hour or so, & Sometimes it has me doubled over and I can't walk or do anything!

I'm at a Loss here and just don't know how to prevent this or of its common for anyone else?;(

Have gallstones been ruled out? Sounds a lot like when I used to get an attack.

Nobody has tested me for that, but my nurse said she doubted that when I asked because I don't have any other symptoms other than the pain and moderate throwing up. They say I'd likely have diarrhea and pain Wouk travel up to side and back and even shoulder area and none of that is an issue. ;(

My first attacks were spasms and doubling over in pain, it was hard to find a position to feel comfortable while I went thru the "episode"...I did not throw up or have diarrhea, and I only had pain during the episode which shortly followed a meal. I found out the meal brought it on, because when you eat fats, the concentrated bile from the gallbladder is activated. Stones block the ducts from the gallbladder to the stomach, so it really is episodic and not constant pain. But YES, I did have some referred pain when having the attacks between my shoulder blades.

An ultrasound can quickly rule this out.

Gallstones are VERY common with any kind of WLS.

Thanks! I'm gonna make an apt with my general dr. Since my surgeon has no concern.

Katie- u were right! My pain got so much worse and I didn't want to wait to see my dr in two days so I went to the ER! It's pancritis (sp?) and my gall bladder is England with stones so they're doing emergancy surgery. I've been in the ER since 2 and am waiting for a room and the surgeon now! Scary for me and sad to have messed up our holiday plans and important other stuff! Guess it never good timing to be in the hospital huh!?

I'm told 75% of sleevers end up having their gall bladder out

Glad you went to have this checked out. Our bodies "tell" us when something is wrong. Your first post sounded so familiar that I had to give you my honest opinion.

I hope you have a speedy recovery. Take good care of yourself!!

I hope they find your gall bladder soon so they can fix things up! Is it perhaps having tea with the queen? They do tend to sneak off sometimes for a little spotted d**k or figgy pudding....

:P (I love a good typo) And I'll love better to read this made you giggle when you get out of surgery and feel 100% better my dear! Stay away from the hospital turkey though! It's beyond horrific!!!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
