Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, were stationed at Hill up in Layton. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good primary physician that will approve the surgery, or if anyone has Tricare, who did they go through to get approval. Also, I'm looking for a good surgeon/surgical center. I am attending the seminar in Ogden for Salt Lake Regional hospital, is that a good one? Any info on docs and referrals would be great!!

Welcome to Utah, aculberg! I can't answer any of your questions about a primary physician of Tricare but I can recommend South Valley Surgical (Drs. Alldredge and Hansen) as a great place to go for surgery. They are wonderful--almost all of their staff has the lapband, they have monthly support groups, do the surgery at an outpatient facility (I went in at 7:00 am and left for home by noon), and are great to answer questions, etc. Good luck!

Hi, I think Highland Family Practice does the surgeries...in SLC. Dr. Muse has been given rave reviews and many writeups about him were found when I did the research, local papers and TV stations.

Good luck and welcome to Utah!

just got back from my 1 year follow up with Dr. McKeen - I just can't say enough good about him or about my experience with the lap-band - everyone keep up the good work!

I'm getting banded Tuedsay 5/6/08 at Salt Lake Regional. Dr. Christine Richards and Daniel Cottom (new guy from Vegas) will be my surgeons. I have had a positive experience with the Weight Loss Center and am very excited.

Does anybody here have any feedback from this center/surgeons?

Thanks,

Matt

Dr. Rachel Hobbs at the Tanner Clinic in Layton is very pro-lap band and super to work with on approvals.

Dr. Richards at SL Regional is my doc and I LOVE her, she's great.

Good program, good support.....I'm very happy so far!

harleygirl, thank you so much for the info on the docs, did SL regional make you go through any kind of special diets, etc before you had the surgery? I have heard of some of them making you wait 6 months...I hope not!

Hi. I need a 2nd fill, and I was wondering which of the SLC-area docs uses fluoroscopy during the fill process.

My Chicago surgeon uses a fluoroscope for fills, and I'm much more comfortable that way than "flying blind".

Thanks a lot.

The 6 month diet is usually an insurance requirement, not something the doctors make you do. I had went on a liquid diet for one week before my surgery....that was doctor required.

Sorry to quote myself, but on second thought, let me rephrase my question:

Regardless of whether or not they use fluoroscopy, who do you guys recommend for fills in the SLC area?

S. Valley Surgical?

Rocky Mtn. Assoc. Physicicans?

Thanks a lot.

I know no one has posted here in a while, idk if I ever have, but I thought it might be nice to talk to other Utah bandsters. I live in Sugarhouse and work in Murray. Anyone out there?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
