Hi all! I was just wondering what phone service if any is best to stay in contact with family and friends back home? I am heading to Mexico on November 18 and really want to have a way for my kids to contact me and my husband directly if they wanted to. And I would feel better knowing we have that line back home too. Thanks for the help in this!!

When I did my surgery there was a US number that we could use for people to call us and we could call out I used Dr Almanza in Tijuana

I had my surgery just across the border from Texas and man those cell phone companies knew! I really don't think I was more than a mile or two over the border and I got a text from my carrier letting me know I was in another country. But my doctor had a land line to the US right outside my room so I am pretty sure all the other Mexican doctors do as well. I don't think you have anything to worry about. ;-)

I am scheduled for surgery at Obesity Control Center in Tijuana and they have an 800 number and phones in patient rooms for family to call you..not sure about calls out though. I was considering adding international calling to my phone for my surgery month, but probably wont. I have straight talk..and that would add $60 for unlimited international calls.

I am heading to Tijuana on the 18ty and they have 800 number to call but I'm not sure if it's in the room or one to share with other patients or what. I have emailed my dr but haven't gotten a response yet. I too am thinking about putting something on my plan now through Verizon but don't want it to be something permanent. I guess I will go in and talk to them tomorrow. Thanks everyone!

If there's wifi in your hospital and at your hotel, you could just use something like Google Voice, a voice over IP app. It will give you a phone number, and it will work as long as you have connection to the internet. And depending on the app, it's either free or very cheap (Google Voice is free). It will give you a phone number so people can call you. And you can call them. You can download the app to your smart phone, or I've even used my ipad (wearing headphones and holding my mouth up to the microphone). A laptop would work too. In that case though I'd probably think about getting a headset.

I was at the MI Doctors hospital w/ dr Garcia in TJ MX. I have a company cell that I couldn't add an international plan to. The hospital had a phone we could use but we were put on a newly opened floor and they had to bring the phone to us. Also the wifi was not available at first. I would suggest you contact your carrier and add a international plan so you don't encounter any problems. Don't forget your text messages I was charged $20 for one text!

Hi, I m from canada and travel down so lots, This is what I did. I went to my carrier and got a GSM phone, which has a sim card, in it. then when you go to a new country you just switch out the sim card and get a number. then send the number to anyone, plus the call are very cheap.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
