Extreme Pain Under My Left Rib.

Recommended Posts

I have had a little pain under my left rib, every once in a while since my surgery. Well last weekend I woke up in so much pain and eneded up in the hospital for 3 days... after a ton of test and drugs. The only thing they would find was that I had inflammation in the tissue over my stomach and bowels. But couldn't tell me why. I am in sooo much pain I can't stand it. Has anyone else had a problems? I feel like I have to diagnose myself!

I'm sorry, sweetie, feel better! I have pain, but it's a burning under my right breast, not left. (Where is our stomach anyways? So confused! The gurgling and bubbling brew sounds eminating from my torso has left me confused -and a little worried- about my anatomy!) I love that you were told 'inflammation' but no cause-really? 2 days b4 surg. my dr. informs me of the hiatal hernia repair he's doing at the same time. I was already consumed with fear and worry about the VSG alone, now this! He never explained the details of my hernia or how this would alter my recovery-I never asked either! Now I feel so stupid that I didnt know what was actually being done in the OR! As if I had a choice! But at least I could have been more psych. prepared for this level of pain and misery! Pre-op all I read was posts by people who had little to no pain, a little gas fir a day or two, and returned to work a week after surgery. RU kidding me! I'm supposed to go back next Monday-all my fam./friends better step up their prayers for me, cuz I can't see that happening the way I feel right now! Sniff, sniff, tear... Oh no, here comes my pity party! Just kidding-I'm in very good spirits, considering! Peace!

The burning on your left is where the largest incision is and where they pulled stomach through. It will b the most tender but it goes away very quickly.

Could you define "very quickly"? I'm 2 weeks postop and my pain is not resolving!

About five days post op I woke up with an unbelievable pain on my left side under my ribs. I dealt with it for a few hours. Tried walking and everything thinking it maybe was a gas bubble. When it persisted I called my surgeon and he had me go to the ER immediately for fear it was a pulmonary embolism.

They did a CT scan and I ended up having Fluid in my left lung. Did they do a CT when you went to the hospital?

I'd check in with the doc, 2 weeks and a lot of pain is too long. Everyone varies but the "real" pain should subside in days. You will be sore and may experience some stinging as cut nerve endings fire off but the intense pain (if any) should be gone, certainly by 2 weeks.

The above mention pacreatitus is a very real issue and should be addressed IMMEDIATELY.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
