Questions Regarding Follow Up Care

Recommended Posts

Once you leave Mexico and if you have any questions, concerns or problems who are you following up with? PCP or another bariatric surgeon in your area?

I went to PCP after doing my research. Asked about his thoughts. Any vaccines or preventative care I needed to update. Also asked if he would still be my PCP postoperative. He is supportive and plans to see to my care postoperative. I am to be his first patient to do Medical Tourism. He is supportive.

My PCP was kind enough to do all my post op care. She still does to this day, by giving me regularly scheduled blood panels. I'm going in this Friday for one in fact. Talk to your PCP and see if they would be willing to help you. It's always better to know prior to having surgeries anywhere outside your network of health care providers.

Great point. My PCP is planning to be on the ball with pre and postoperative. I have a wonderful PCP.

I hate to admit this but I have had no follow up care at all. I was healthy when I got sleeved and feel great now that I am down 60 lbs. I do plan to get some bloodwork done, I just haven't made the effort yet.

You know, it's strange because I live in Quebec and medical care is covered by our provincial health insurance, and yet I'm going self pay (because the waiting list for bariatric surgery in Quebec is at least 3 years long and I'd rather pay now than wait that long!), AND I don't have a PCP to do my follow ups because there's a doctor shortage in Quebec and I'm one of the unfortunately 30-35% of the population without a family doctor. What I do though is every year I get a complete blood panel done by a private lab (get that reimbursed through my husband's work insurance), and at the same time I get a yearly physical done by a doctor, but he ONLY does my yearly physical, he would not follow me post surgery unless it was at that one yearly check up.

So on the positive side, I know I have no health issues or Vitamin issues right now. I have no comorbidities, no diabetes, no hypertension (though it's getting borderline).

What I could do is pay 500$ to open a file at the private clinic in Montreal, and then pay several hundred out of pocket every time I needed to go do a follow up appointment. That's an option if I need it. I'll wait to see how I feel post surgery.

(If there was ever an emergency though I'd just head to the ER and that would be covered by our provincial insurance).

Wow. And I thought the US healthcare system was a pain...kinda puts things un perspective. We could use some changes, but it doesn't seem so bad now. ; )

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
