Spivak Port Placement

Recommended Posts

I'm preband and considering becoming a possible self-pay patient with Dr. Spivak.

I would like to know where Dr. Spivak placed your port, his rationale for port placement, and whether you have a low profile port. Also, if you have lost a substantial amount of weight, please tell me whether your port is visible based on the placement location.

hi randi,

dr spivak places the port right under the sternum. i have a low profile port,9.75cm(4 ccs). i think he places it there so when you lose alot of weight it's not visible.

Cutiern,

How many inches below your sternum is it located. And, is that the only location in which he places the port? Or, is that just where he places the low profile ports?

i say it's about 5-6 in below my sternum. now, i have a co-worker who's port is on the left under her rib cage. dr spivak was her dr too. maybe he doesn't decide on port placement until time of surgery.

good luck!!

Hello to all Dr Spivak patients. As I am one. I do not know if you know this yet or not but Dr Spivak is having a ball for all of his patients. Wanda Chase the director of the group sent the people in the online group that are signed up off his website this email.// Those of you who are planning to attend the Ball, we need to have at least 70 patients attend. There is only 3 weeks until the dead line so get your applications printed and sent to the PO BOX and if you are not participating in the contest, which everyone should regardless,) please send me your RSVP at spivakbandmd@yahoo.com as soon as you are able, I need to add your names to the guest list.<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig --> __________________

Mine is about 1-2 inches below my sternum. It isn't visible yet and I can feel it when I try. I'm not sure why this spot over another or if I have the low profile or not.

hmmm, not much help huh? (sorry)

My Dr. put my port on my rib just underneath my left breast. From my experience I would suggest not putting it there. It was a more painful recovery and I can fill it easily. Actually the elastic on the bottom of bra cup rubs this area constantly. It is uncomfortable to lay certain ways because I can feel the hard plastic pushing on my rib. I am only six weeks post op so I have not had a fill yet. The only advantage I can see at this point is that it will be easy to find for the fills. Good Luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
