October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow October bandsters...I have finally gotten a new computer and will be on more. My computer was a goner right before I got my band and I had been using my parents to ask questions off and on. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone more now that I can read and "talk" on a more frequent bases. Well, I have lost a total of 53 pounds now and I will be putting pictures on pretty soon. I can really tell a big difference which is great!! I know my ticker is a little off but I will fix it soon enough. I do have a question for ya'll though do you guys ever get a fill and think it is going to be the one and last for a while but about two weeks later you are eating the same again. About two weeks ago I got filled and I have lost 11 pounds since then but I am just starting to be able to eat just like I was before I got it. I still can't eat very much but it is still annoying to think I will have to get another one sooner than I thought I would. :(

Wonderwoman, I've had the same situation happen with me. I've had four fills since October. After the first three fills, within 2 weeks it was like they had "worn off" and I had to depend on weak will power. But I had my fourth fill of Feb 13th and it seems to be hanging in there. It has been more than a month since and as of today, it is just like I had my fill yesterday! I'm not saying I'm at my sweet spot yet but I must be getting close...at least I hope. Congrats on the 53 pounds! Wow! Think about that...53 pounds! Whew. Keep up the good work Wonderwoman.

Hugs.......Jimboss

Good Morning Bandsters!!!: Have I got good news......Any one out there have hap ins.? It now covers the surgical band procedure, and fills "or adjustments" I thought I was going to end up paying for my fills, but,,, as of 11/01/06 they announced for the new year they will cover the band.. I just got my referal the other day, and I only have to pay the co-pay for a office visit. Specialist is $30.00 I can live with that.If you have hap or no of someone with hap and would love to have this done. "NO GUIDE LINES AT ALL!" They have to contact Henry Ford Hospital Bariatrics center. "because they are a center of excellence hospital" So that's were hap will send you. That's were I go and they are great to me. Pass it on. Welcome wonderwomen, you are alittle ahead of me w/ the weight loss. I have lost about 44lbs. (4lbs for the easter challenge.) I was banded on Oct. 17th. I need to lose about 110lbs.

Tomorrow will weigh again. Everyone is starting to notice and boy does that give me will power to be good. I work at Macy's (customer service) and a salon (doing nails) so I see alot of people. How about everyone else?

My Mother in law just passed away so we will have family in to stay with us, so there will be alot of food that I will have to be good around. My daughter (she is 23) lives in Virginia Beach now, is coming home to, for the service. She is coming home April 9th too and I wanted to have lost 10 more lbs before she saw me again but that won't happen now. I have only lost about 7lbs since I saw her in Feb.yada yada yada! LOL

You guys have a good weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mary

Mary: I work in a plant that is moveing to Mexico sometime this year. So we are all loseing our jobs.I am getting older, and my other knee is very bad "do to be replaced" So I am giveing serious thought to haveing it done soon "while I still have Ins. coverage" and applying for my ss and takeing the dissabilitey. I will be taken care of for the rest of my life. "I mean I worked for it, and ruined my knees packing!" Otherwise it's unemployment for 1 year, and school for 2 years. Now I am passed 50 so the schooll might not pertain to me. It would be $5,000.00 a year for 2 years. "PLEASE, DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH!" and that's it. So I called a Attorney, and they said I stand a excellent chance because I am passed 50and my condition will never improve. What do you all think? Should I become a stay at home mom again? "without any kids this time!!!" Shirley...

Sorry to read of your loss,, you hang in there and like you said be good.

Welcome back Wonderwoman! You have done an incredible job with your weight loss so far. Keep up the good work!

Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL's passing. My thoughts are with you and your family. I'm sure it will be nice to see your daughter again. :( I remember when I lived in Chicago I used to get so homesick for my mom.

Good to hear from you Jim...I was wondering where you've been!

I'm actually going to be able to register some weight change for the Easter challenge on Sunday. I think I finally got over my plateau.

Shirley, Yes you should! I worked full time for 4 years 20 yrs to 24yrs and we did mega overtime and when I had my son I said I would never work full time again. ( I have 2 part-time jobs now LOL) But I didn't want to work my life away! So we don't have a big boat just a pontoon, no motor home a camper, ect ect ect. But I have loved it. I like that I can plan things. Of course you lose pay when you take off. LOL I say go for it. We only have a few good years of good health to play.

Everyone, thank you for your prayers and thoughts. Next Saturday will be the Service. His sisters planned it. Thanks again.

Mary

Top of the Irish to every one today: Well it's been interesting for me so far this morning. A nurse came for blood, and other tests today, and my husband and I were weighed. They got me at 190lbs. I looked at her and said "WHAT DOES THIS scale SAY!" 190 she replied. I said got to be wrong. She said wellllll maybe 4lbs. friendly, otherwise on target. Well 190+4=194 wright? So according to them, I am in onederland. I will find out when I see my surgeon exactley what I way. In the mean time every one is telling me i'm getting so skinney, and I don't see it...So I am either in onderland or dam close to it. And this fake knee ways more thean a real knee. Go figure. Must be all that P.T... Shirley...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
