October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Thanks to all my band buddies for your input. I think you must be right and it's still surgery gas. I hope this stuff goes away soon. It has definitely been the worst part of this whole thing. I really do pretty well with pain and this thing almost had me in tears earlier. I wish I could just take my left shoulder off and leave it at home for a while. IT'S SO WORTH IT THOUGH! This time last week I had only had my band for about 4 hrs!!!Sometimes I can still hardly believe it's real.

Many good wishes and prayers to those of you about to begin your journey, to those of us that just got started, and to the old pros around here. LET'S DO THIS!!!!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Thanks for the input about driving myself home. I'll take the train instead so I can get up and walk around while travelling. I'm a single mom and I've only told 2 people about the surgery (I'm not telling anyone in my family) so I don't really want to bother someone to drive 6 hours to come out and get me.

Hey everyone! I haven't posted in a long time, but I've been reading on and off. I finally got a band date - October 20th! I have excellent insurance, but I had a lot of stuff to gather and they took every day of the 30 days to approve me, even though they said it was basically "a formality". Whatever, I have a date! So many October babies. Good luck to us all!

Here we go...

Just tried the tickerfactory and wanted to see if I got it right.

As long as I'm here, momotrips, congrats on getting your band date!

Hello All!

Joanne, I see we are band buddies, Yea! Good job on the 10lbs, WOW! I lost most of my weight pre-op. I have lost 6 pounds since the 6th, but that's because I can't eat. Another pound lost today. I have never lost weight this fast before. It must be the no-eating plus the body ramps up the metabolism to heal.

I started my Protein shakes again today. I definitely feel better having more Protein than just the broth.

So, gas pains or tummy spasms for these momentary jolts of pain? I can't help but wonder if my stomach isn't simply objecting.

Aza, I am glad you will not drive yourself home on the second day. I also wish there was someone who would go with you. On my second day I could still barely move around. I am in the small minority for complications, but thank god I had a friend with me. Be very careful and keep us posted so we know you're okay.

My oldest daughter, who is in college, sent me beautiful yellow roses. Her card says: "Mom, I can't wait to start borrowing more than just your shoes." I am so touched and so motivated.

Jess

In 6 days I will have my surgery. I have been on the shakes for 10 days. I am drinking the EAS Advant Edge carb control shakes. I am supposed to have 5 a day, one serving of starch, one fruit and one vegetable. I am having trouble drinking all 5. In the morning (I bought a one size blender called the Magic Bullet) and put in frozen strawberries and my vanilla shake and it is actually quite good. I have not been hungry at all. I am looking forward to the surgery. Does anyone know how long before you can go back to work?

Hi there. I don't post usually but I have been reading the boards lately and I wanted to tell everyone that I'M OFFICIALLY BANDED!!! My surgery was this morning and I'm doing great. Other than some minor tightness in my abdomen, I'm feeling just a tad bit sore. Nothing major. I'm so exited and I'll keep you all updated.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
