Any New Uk Sleevers Out There?

Recommended Posts

Hi Mary

I lived in Berkshire most of my life, Wokingham, woodley, Bracknell then 2 years in maidenhead and now London. I never get far from home. We used to cycle to cookham. Lovely place.

I can't explain the head change it gives you. I am no longer obsessed with food. I enjoy my meals but when I'm done I'm fine. I can leave stuff on my plate which I could never do preop! And because the weight comes off so quick you stay motivated. I don't buy norty things because then I can't be tempted. You will be fine!!

Yes I do take Vitamins but my hospital says sleevers don't need to. My advice is don't buy cheap ones. Get Centrium chewable for the first month. Now I have sanatogen a-z once a day and a Calcium tablet once a day. I have lots of energy so must be doing something right! I know this is a delicate subject but get some senna liquid too. You will get constipated at the beginning!!

P.s if you want my email if that's easier just shout. I assume there's a way to do pm's here but not worked it out yet ;)

Hi Tealover,

I was sleeved on Thursday, feeling overwhelmed as struggling to even drink Water so reading your last post has been so reassuring and encouraging just when I needed it. Thanks for that. I just want to fast forward this phase.

How long before you felt comfortable- can you remember?

Hiya,

Thanks for replying! What I meant was swallowing fluids without it feeling like a golf ball is lodged in your throat! Wind pains are intermittent but it's when I drink Water and I get gurgly ache it puts you off trying more... How long till that settles?

Thanks

No problem. If you want to chat by email just pm me. Always happy to help if i can.

the drinking thing gets easier every day but it was a good 3 weeks before before i could stop sipping and a good month before my tummy stopped gurgling! i always felt like i was moving wind when i was drinking. Have you tried ice lollies? They were my saving grace, i had all sorts of flavours in the freezer and would get through several a day! Because you suck them they go in slow. Only last weekend did i try my favourite cath kidston mug full of tea, it must take about a pint and it was fine. x

Hiya fellow Scot!

They'll want a medical history from you and why you feel weight loss surgery is a good option for you, they'll go over your diet and weight loss past and why you ask you why you're there. What do you think this surgery will do for you etc

They go over all the options and pros and cons for each.....

Hope that helps

Hi everyone. I'm Jo from Brighton. I was sleeved on the 12th Oct so I'm 10 days post op now and still on liquids. I think the worst of the headhunger is behind me now. I had a few days of craving everything I saw.

Can I ask... for those of you who've been sleeved a while, did you get hair loss? A lot of the Americans are saying they had Hair loss at 3 to 4 months which didn't come back til 8 or 9 months post op. I'm just curious. I can hear Ebay calling me to buy some groovy wigs! I was told that hair loss is a sign of general malnourishment but so many people seem to get it that I'm wondering if it's just one of those things to expect or if it's a dietary difference from country to country.

Sorry Jo, I'm not very clear. It'll be your first consultation with a surgeon?

I received mine after being accepted for a surgery by my trust. Meeting with him was about what type of a bariatric procedure I would like to follow.

Hi all,

I'm a fellow Scot - ScottishLassie - I live in Aberdeenshire - whereabouts are you?

I got sleeved on 11th October. Doing ok so far - still off work and got another week to go.

I find sleep and movement so much easier than I did before now - but get sleepy now and then. I figure its just my bodys way of telling me to rest.

Today is 14 days out for me - I'm now onto purreed food - know what you mean about feeling like theres a golf ball lodged there - its in my chest and back for me... how long does this last for? How long are you all taking over your meals? How much do you drink in a day?

Selena

Hello, congratulations.

I took it day by day. Didn't obsessed about amounts of food and drinks. Just "went with it". It's over 14 months for me since surgery and I'm still applying the same guide lines: eating and drinking in small amounts, slowly and as often as I need. One advice, pay great attention to the nutritional value of your food. Keep taking necessary supplements. That's very, very important. Good luck. I think you'll find this forum very helpful in finding answers to your questions.

Hi there!

I'm doing great Thanks!!

3 weeks out yesterday and feeling much better, tiredness can still be an issue but helps if get plenty Protein in. I've lost 28lbs in total from my heaviest weight. Incisions are totally fine- still feel a bit tender inside but no big deal at all. I'd say first 2 weeks is def the worst- now I can eat soft food I feel normal again. The hardest thing to get my head round is how little it takes to feel totally full. I can imagine I will find that frustrating at times!! So far no problem, but I can see the potential risk for moments of "wanting" to eat but won't be able and how that might be emotionally challenging.

It's all good though and I'm so excited that THIS TIME I am actually going to lose the weight! Often I'd get to this point on a diet and muck it up- go back go my old ways and pile it all back on- NOT THIS TIME!

What about you- you got a new date yet? How's pre op diet going?

Xxxx

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
