October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

Recommended Posts

Hiii Everyone =o)!

I've been reading these forums from afar and finally decided to join and start saying Hello. I was Sleeved 10/16 and am feeling better and better every day. Am down 40 lbs since I started my pre-op diet! 15 of that in the 10 days since surgery, I am soo excited to continue this journey and get my skinny on!

I have to say I am amazed at how different everyones diets are post surgery. I am on 2 weeks of Clear Liquids will actually be 2 weeks and a few days because I cant progress until my follow up on 11/1. Been drinking alot of gatorade and propel Water with a ton of beneprotein mixed in them to get my Protein in and that's really it! I can do broth too but I'm so focused on my protein and ugh that's just nasty adding beneprotein to my broth (its a mental thing). I can do Jello as well but eh, just a little burnt out. But I see alot of people are already on pureed foods or were able to do full liquids/purees within a few days of surgery. Feeling a little deprived!! But have to say I'm loving the weight loss and I'm not hungry so I'll just keep doing what I'm doing.

Good luck to everyone on your journey!

I agree 10/12 sleeve here no problems. It is challenging with the Water intake but I was never a fan of h2o. Nonetheless, vitamin water and Sobe has been the best for me. Crystal light seems to now have a more noticeable aftertaste to me. I'm cleared for soft foods and am enjoying my sleeve!

I totally agree with you I was sleeved on 10/17 and I feel great I have no pain at all just trying to get all the liquids and Protein in is hard. I'm glad to know its not just me who feels good. I'm praying for everyone who are having complications that everything gets better for them.

Thank you, I only take the pain meds when I have to, because I know they can cause nausea too

I was sleeved on Oct 23. at Vanderbilt. Dr. Williams was my doctor. I am a 53 year old female. My surgery went well, didn't remember anything until they were waking me up in the recovery room. Immediately, I threw up, pooped and urinated all over myself at the same time.(Don't you know they loved me) After about 7 hours in recovery I finally got a room. Continued to have "dry heaves". I was released after 36 hours. Next two days in and out of sleep, no pain and incisions looking good. I guess that would be the worst part of my story. I am getting stronger everyday. When I weighed from coming home from the hospital, I had gained 10 pounds of Fluid. Now I have lost the 10 pounds of fluid plus 8 of my own. Yea.

I am eating puree foods. Everything has agreed with me so far except one of my crushed blood pressure medicines. My cousin who was sleeved 6 months before me(has lost 82 pounds) brought me Syntrax Nectar Protein Powder. It really is good. It helps me get my Protein in along with fluids. I have had the support of a wonderful husband that has taken such great care of me.I am excited about this new me. But, as they say, "This ain't for sissies".

Good luck to everyone and if I can help anyone on this site or in the Nashville area--just let me know.

God Bless.

Hi I was sleeved at Vanderbilt on 10/24. No problems so far, just struggle with the Water intake. My doc was Dr Clements.

Hey Pam, glad everything is going alright with you. I am so glad Vanderbilt does not make us go on extreme liquids pre and post. So many on here had to do liquids two weeks before and two weeks after. Wow, not sure I could've done that. I go to Vandy tomorrow for check up. scales say I have lost 10 pounds. Yea.....

I'm a 10/24 sleeve too!! I am ready to get this dang on drain out, it's driving me crazy.......... Apparently as long as I have more than 50ml of out put per day it has to stay in., I have almost 3 times that..... Congrats to us all for having the courage to take the step of being sleeved

Sleeved Oct 22. On pureed foods. Doing good. Feel fine. Having a hard time getting enough in, which is a weird problem to have. Seemed to have hit a stall on the weight loss. Doctor told me to hide the scale. Lol.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
