Boston/new England Area Buddy

Recommended Posts

I'm in the Boston area, interested in finding someone to buddy-up with. I'm relatively serious about the journey I'm on, following my surgeon's/nutritionist's directions, and working hard at the gym. It'd be great to have someone to talk to who has half a clue what I'm going through! :). Laura

Hey Kim! I'm in Arlington (used to live in Danvers). I had my surgery done June 19th, at Beth Israel Deaconess. Thoroughly thrilled with the results, and the care I received! Do you have a 6-month pre-surgical requirement to meet (for your insurance)? How're you feeling about the decision to have surgery? (Its a crazy ride, to be sure!)

I'm doing great, actually! I've lost a total of 101 pounds...49 since June 26th (when I started losing after my surgery on June 19th)....and I feel fantastic!! I've gone from a snug size 26 jeans to a loose 20, and a size 5X blouse to a 1X. I still can't believe I can actually fit into the clothes hanging in my closet now! LOL

What work out has helped you lose weight? Or what has helped you the most? I was sleeved September 4th so I'm still in the liquid stage. Thanks :))

I think a number of things have been helpful for me...

1. I go to the gym every day. Currently I'm doing an hour of Water aerobics one or two times a day, at least 6 days a week. As soon as my leg heals (muscular injury), I'll be adding back in an hour or two on the treadmill every day.

2. I eat between 550 and 650 calories a day, with rare days over 700. (My capacity is increasing very slowly, and I make a point to not push it.)

3. I make sure to get at least 80 grams of Protein every day. If that means I need to drink Muscle Milk, or eat Gelatein 20, in order to make the number, then I do that. Whatever it takes.

4. I make sure to drink at least 80 ounces of liquid every day. No exceptions....even when I think I can't possibly swallow another drink of Water. I drink Decaf tea, decaf coffee, flavored water (sugar-free only), plain water, Protein drinks....whatever....I always have something liquid within reach.

5. I keep my carb intake below 30 grams per day. I've been in ketosis for over 4 months now, burning fat to replace the missing carbs. I feel great, can't stand the taste of sweet or starchy things now, and am steadily losing weight.

Basically....I'm doing everything my surgeon/nutritionist told me to do. LOL

:)

Hi, first time poster hoping to have surgery with Dr McCluney at St. E's. I loved him from our first meeting. Things are moving pretty fast and I'm hoping for an approval. I have to lose 5% before he will even schedule surgery. I have psych eval and NUT on 9/10 then I'm hoping to submit to insurance.

Any suggestions on how I can lose this weight pre surgery? I'm tracking with MFP but have only lost about 7 of the 14 I need to lose. scale has not moved in almost two weeks. Initial consult was 8/13 and been dieting ever since.

Thanks

I also had mine in st eves. They Will put you on a luquid diet before surgery. You could start now with replasing one meal a day with a Protein Shake. Where you from? Do u live in boston? I go to the support groups at st eves. Feel free to contact me would be happy to help

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
