As our bodies begin to shrink, hormones are released that are stored in our fat cells. Thus, sometimes women and men have mood swings. It's a common occurrence! You are normal. One thing that can counteract the "emotional meanies" is exercise! If it becomes a source of depression, seek help!!

Btw..everything you described is" normal". It does get better with time. Give yourself some leeway! You just had a major life changing surgery! Hang in there!

Mood swings are totally normal. I agree with Piplula - maybe it would help to talk to someone? Many of us have bottled things up for years, especially if we're emotional eaters, and when we can't have food to deal with stress we are stuck finding other ways to deal with it. It's a difficult thing. I know there are many therapists out there that work with bariatric patients, maybe it would be helpful to have at least a couple appointments, just to sort things out.

I was on a roller coaster ride too, so it affects the guys as well. As pointed out, stored hormones in the fat, caloric limitations and ketosis all effect your blood chemistry and therefore your brain and mood.

On top of that I was on testosterone replacement therapy and had to cut WAY WAY back on my dosage as I got smaller. It too contributed to my frustration level.

If it's real bad go see the doc, perhaps an RX is in order. It DOES seem to level out but so far at closing in on 2 years it hasn't totally evened out for me.

I was like that too, only mine was for the better. . .my hubbie told me i was so much easier to get along with and had less mood swings. I noticed that i was much more relaxed and calm. . .maybe it was because i knew i finally was at peace with myself. . even now at 3 years out, i notice that i'm much more calm and tolerant. . . i feel bad for those who are the opposite and feel miserable. . it makes it much more harder. . .

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
