I've been on this roller coaster for three years and until last week didn't know about the sleeve. I went through all the preop classes and appointments Kaiser requires and didn't loose the required 30 lbs for the gastric bypass. Last week I was assigned a new surgeon and he said the sleeve was the way to go for me. First I heard of it. I finally have hope. He put me on a 1500 Cal diet with a follow up next month. If I loose the 15 lbs sooner, I can make a sooner appointment. Problem is I'm a smoker. I must quit. I've cut down to half in a week. So hard after 20 yrs. This site has been very helpful, I've learned so much. Also dropped 6 lbs. Can I do it?

Of course you can! If you want it, you'll do it! I think you're definitely on the right track! What kind of exercise are you doing? What kind of diet?

cher

glad you have a different dr now - and he showed you the advantages to the sleeve.

you said Kaiser requires you to lose 30lbs - the dr. said 15, do you have to lose 30 or 15 lbs to lose? big difference

you need and want to lose this weight ASAP, IMO i would go on a full liquid diet.

never been a smoker but i can empathise with your problem of having to stop smoking after 20

years

nicotene is a chemical addiction - hard to break

you must stop smoking for your health, but in the immediate future and for the rest of your life, so you can successfully have your sleeve

nobody should place judgement/lecture you about the smoking - you know the situation, you know you must deal with it, end of sentence, period, of course this is much easier said than done - but i have confidence in you

it will be hard to have to deal immediately w/two additions, smoking and eating - but you must

show yourself and dr that you can follow the rules, stop smoking, and control your eating to lose excess weight sooner than later so you can have your sleeve

good luck

we're all cheering you on

kathy

Thank you ladies. I have to loose 15. I think the amount required to loose varies based on Bmi it how the surgeon feels that day :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
