Anyone have any tips for sleeping? I'm not a back sleeper, so Im having a ton of trouble my first night home. I woke up with a ton of back pain so now I'm on the recliner feeling a little better. I'm thinking maybe I'll just sleep here for a few nights, but how did you sleep in bed?

I'm having the same problem..... I bought one of those pillows that looks like the back of a chair and its going better. (Not great-just better) I wish I had a good tip on what to do..... Sorry I don't.... But if your experience is similar to mine definitely DON'T try to sleep on your side at all!!!! Even in a couple days when being on your right side doesn't feel all that bad..... I tried it and propped myself very comfortably with a ton of pillows, etc and woke up in such pain and couldn't move!!! If I come across something that works ill def let you know!

22lbs!!! Wow George, that is awesome!

Thank you very much! I have to say, the first 2 days of post-op I hardly ate anything. I think that had a lot to do with the huge drop in weight. I 'll take it though..First time under 300 lbs in 10 years ;-) Woo-hoo!

Two weeks since your surgery and your allowed to have regular food ? No Soup or purée ? How can this be ? Lol I am 10 data out I've got to have liquids for another 4 days then onto purée for two weeks . 4 th dec I'm allowed real food .

I should clarify..I was adavanced to puree. I was just so excited that I did not have to drink Protein Shakes 3 times a day, even puree seems like real food now ;-) So I am doing the mushy stuff for 4 weeks. However, even this is so much better than full liquid all day!! Hang in there! Dec 4th will be here before you know it..

Still struggling with pre-op diet. Only lost 2.5 lbs. in 2 weeks! Also still struggling with insurance. I am not so happy at the moment. Time is ticking by and surgery is planned for less than 2 weeks away. Having a U.S. Thanksgiving dinner for friends and family here in New Zealand. May be a long hard haul to surgery date. Hope everyone else is doing well and staying strong.

Thank you so much! ;-) But I have to be honest, I hardly ate anything for 2 days..Im sure that a lot to do with it..And I was never a back sleeper either..Just give it a few days and you'll feel more comfortable on your side..The body pillow help because you can put it between your knees and it takes a lot of pressure of your side and stomach..Try it out. At points I was so tired I did fall aleep on my back. I was amazed at this! A week from now and you will be able to sleep anyway you want :-)

Hello everyone!! My surgery is just 4 days away! Nervous bit excited! I have been on the pre-op for the past week and a half and the scale was moving great the first week but this week it shows I have gained 2 lbs...how is that possible??? I am allowed yogurt' date=' fruit or egg in the morning, Protein Shake for lunch and then 4oz lean white meat with a green veggie for dinner and then another Protein shake (which I never do the last shake). With that I am lucky to take in 600 calories a day. Any ideas?[/quote']

The same thing happened to me Ricky. I wasn't eating much before the preopt diet (one meal a day , small salad) and my body took a week to adjust to food on a regular schedule. Keep the faith, follow the diet and your metabolism will adjust quickly.

Congrats George! Your doing amazing!

I'm having back sleeping issues too. My lower back is killing me. I'm a tummy sleeper so I'm way out or my element lol. I think I pinched a nerve or something because my right thigh is totally numb. I was worried about that but read its signs or a pinched nerve in the back. Great just what I need lol. Been like that for 2 days now, anyone else experience this or something like this?

Or maybe I'm crazy, lol! I am also allowed to at normal food. Right now I'm on mashies but the only thing that really sits well is refried beans! Who knew I would love refried Beans so much?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
