Eating When Not Hungry

Recommended Posts

I have not had my surgery yet but have a question about eating when your not hungry. I am overweight because I eat too much, I eat when I am hungry and when I am not. So my question for those of you that have your sleeve done, what is it like now? Am I going to be less likely to be a "mindless" eater and eat when I am not hungry or will I still struggle with this? Thank you.

I don't really feel hungry right now but I made myself a schedule to make sure I don't fall behind on Protein and nutrients. I've gotten cravings for things but I haven't felt like I've been starving myself. I'm on a 400-600 calorie diet so I try to stick to the priorities. I guess what I'm saying is, that I had to reset the way I looked at food completely. I eat to keep the body going and to stop myself from grazing, I set of schedule of times to eat. I can't say it will be easy, because its definitely not for me.

For me, the mindless "eating crap I don't even really like because it's there" pretty much stopped. The more active I am, the less hungry I get. Weird huh?

I think I still have the head hunger and eating out of boredom trouble, but the best thing to do for that is to go on a walk or bike ride and earn a little snack :-) Trust me. You don't feel so out of control.

I'm 9 days out from surgery and I can tell you that I don't think it just goes away. Even though I haven't felt hungry at all, I've craved things. Things that are not healthy like pizza or mac n' cheese. I haven't given into any of my cravings because I'm newly sleeved and don't want to jeopardize my healing. I have to think though that the temptation may become stronger when I'm further in and can eat a wider range of foods. I'm hoping that is where the 6 months of nutritional and psychological counseling I had as an insurance requirement comes in handy. I think Ryokokitty is exactly right when she talks about changing the way you view food. We need to view food as fuel and find other ways to deal with boredom, stress or to Celebrate.< /p>

The cravings don't necessarily go away, especially early out, but the mindless eating stops significantly. I used to watch tv, look down and had eaten a half to 3/4th a box of cheez its. Today I had some for the first time and it took me hours to finish a serving of 29.

In between your Protein and Water goals there just isn't a lot of room for much else and I'm pretty satisfied most of the day.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
