Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have been a nurse for 13 years now. Anyone would think , "how can i maneuver?" I carry my weight well cause i have been obese all my life. My CW is morbid obesity but I am very active and mobile. My goal weight loss is 240 lbs. Work full-time at the local hospital med-surg and at the physical hospital part time. That is a plus because on breaks I can work out for free. Planning Vsg the third week in May. I know this Is only a tool/aide to assist with the weightloss So I am going to use that helping hand. I need this to help gain control.

You are correct in this being a tool. I have come to terms with a lifestyle change. I have resolved the fact that I have to eat, exercise and just live healthier. My goal weight loss is 100 lbs and to begin exercising as soon S I get the ok.

Hi my name is Larry and I'm a Registered Nurse in dialysis for the las 15 years. I'm actually having my surgery tomorrow at 7:30am. I was actually convinced to do the procedure after several of my patients had bypass to get on the transplant list. This will be my first hospitalization and surgery ever' date=' no I'm a little nervous hut ready at the same time. My surgeon bases on my BMI on requires me to be NPO after midnight and hopefully just an overnight stay in the hospital. My pre-op consisted of upper GI, abdominal US, echocardiogram, EKG, CXR and about 11 tubes of blood. He said everything looked great so that's good. I will keep you posted.[/quote']

Good luck tomorrow!!!! Will keep you in my prayers!

Hope everyone is recovering well. I am 6 days out and went back to work last night. It wasn't to bad. I wish I was able to take off more time but it wasn't possible. Recovery so far has been pretty easy.

NurseAndi- what kind of work do you do? I am trying to gage how much time I will need to take before returning to the hospital.

Floor nurse on a behavior unit. Only thing I really needed to be careful of is my hitters and kickers. Otherwise it wasn't to bad. However I am working a split shift tonight then off for 2 days but it really wasn't to bad.

That is good news.

I am due to go on vacation on may 17th for a week up to Rhode Island to visit our grown girls. So now I am thinking that I may do the surgery a week or so before that and just tack the vacation onto the end of my time off before returning to work. Thing is I don't think my boss will let me go out for the vacation if I have the surgery first and then return to work. and I don't think it is right to go on vacation only to then leave again for surgery so soon afterwards. Guess I am trying to figure out how to do both.

I took 4 weeks off, and needed it! I should have probably taken a little longer, but didn't. I had a an abscess that probably made me feel worse than I would have. I'm an informatics nurse, so desk work and walking is all I do. Also, I needed the time to adjust to my diet - in the early days it took me all day to get in 300 calories and liquids, had diarrhea, etc. Glad those days are behind me :) It truly does just keep getting better!

I am Joanna, I've been a nurse for 38 years, I currently work in mental health and am in graduate school getting my NP. I was sleeved on Feb 12th and have lost 29 lbs so far. I've been very pleased with everything so far. Very little pain, no vomiting, no diarrhea, a little grouchy pouch but it's getting better day by day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
