It's 11 days post-op for me, and I am tired all of the time. I have to force myself to drink and exercise. I just want to sleep all day. I am still doing good with weight loss (I have lost 16 pounds overall), but I am so lethargic. I don't know what to do about it. I'm not hungry, I'm not thirsty, I just want to sleep. Any suggestions?

I'm 12 days out....and feeling the same. I can't even imagine working out yet, I'm barely keeping up with the house. Hope soft foods will help on Wednesday.

Try upping your Protein and what helped me with energy is was sublingal Vitamin B12. Tiny small pill you put under your tongue.

As tired as you are, you need to set some time during your day to walk around, even if it's 20 minutes. At first walking was rough outside (I had a drain 9 days) so I walked from living room to dining room to kitchen in a circle. I walked 20 minutes straight and I did it three times a day. In between I sipped, I pretty much camped out in my family room in a recliner and I would nap once a day (sometimes twice), but I made sure I did 20 minutes non-stop walking. After that I progressed to walking outside in my backyard, I have a huge patio. I made sure it was timed, I did 2 1/2 hours. After two weeks I quit the naps.

Give yourself time to heal, but you have to make time to walk a bit, your lungs and legs need it.

Best of luck, rest when you can, sip when you can and walk when you can.

I drink all of my Protein Shake first thing in the morning. Usually takes me about an hour to get it all down. Then, I switch to Water or Decaf unsweet tea/coffee. Later in the day I will usually have a strained Soup or broth. So far I have been able to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day (walking on the treadmill). I'm just always tired and wishing I was sleeping instead. I still force myself to do what is needed. I was just wondering if I am going to get out of this funk? I am so sick of being on liquids. Uugh.

Try spreading your Protein out over the course of the day, I don't think our bodies can use so much protein all at once. You might be getting only part of what youre taking in then not anything for the rest of the day.

Thanks, I will try that again. I just HATE switching from drink to drink. It makes me sick. I started out doing 2 oz of Protein, 2 oz of Water, 2 oz of broth, 2 oz of decaf/unsweet tea (or something) each hour. It was so hard to keep up with that schedule. So I tried switching to 8-12 oz of Protein, 8-12 oz of Water, 8-12 oz of broth, and 8-12 oz of decaf/unsweet tea every 4-6 hours or so. I guess that was the wrong thing to do. I will try going back to the old schedule and see if that helps me out. Thanks.

Try spreading your protein out over the course of the day, I don't think our bodies can use so much protein all at once. You might be getting only part of what youre taking in then not anything for the rest of the day.

I can't remember which post I read it, but I know I've read a couple times that we can only absorb up to 30 grams of Protein in a given time. I'm trying to have quite a bit of Protein in the morning and the quite a bit at dinner.

I know I have been dreaming tons every night since my surgery, which has been kind of taxing on my sleep. I'm not sure if maybe it's because of how I'm sleeping, but I've tried many different beds/chairs and still the same thing. It's fine right now because I have the time to nap during the day, but I'm hoping it will resolve. Do you feel like your sleep has been normal? Maybe you are more restless at night and that's affecting your day?

Honestly I am enjoying that I am back to dreaming again. I was going to bed at 3:00 am and waking up at 8 and never dreaming. I weaned from ambien at the beginning of the year, and when I started exercising, I started getting to bed by 10:30 and sleeping to 6-7:00 am. I sleep so much more but I'm actually dreaming again, which has been pretty sweet ;) I think dreaming is actually healthy for you.

You know that between 7 - 12 days many sleevers report getting a bit of depression and that's probably some of what is going on here with being tired, being tired is something that happens during depression. You are still newly out and learning this whole new way of eating while healing. If you need to nap, nap, make sure you get your fluids in and you walk around enough.

Just give yourself some more time to heal and do your best with Protein and it eventually everything sorts itself out.

I think this was the problem. Now that I am over 2 weeks out I am feeling sooo much better. I still get worn out quicker than usual, but that's when I am up and doing more activity than I have been. I know I'm still healing from surgery, so I hope that will work itself out in a few more weeks.

I'm sure it will get better. I'm still dealing with some pretty serious fatigue, too, at almost two months out. I've been taking supermassive doses of B-12, some chromium, and zinc, along with my bariatric Vitamins. I drink two (non carbonated) calorie free energy/vitamin drinks a day, and drink espresso in the morning but it just hasn't been enough.

I'm still waiting for the big burst of energy everyone says will come eventually, but I'm pretty sure my case is unusual.

That said, I was and am also dealing with a bit of nausea (in the mornings, no--I'm not pregnant) that made getting all my Protein a bit of a challenge, so that might have something to do with it.

It's normal! I was taking a nap untill a month out when I went back to work. And even then I still wanted one. Your body is Getting used to less calories lower carbs not to mention healing. Just listen to your body it will be ok in a month or so.

I was told no caffeine! Life isn't fair! Maybe take your Protein later in the day since you have been nauseous in the mornings? Just a guess. Good luck.

I was tired until 4 months out. I ate right, exercised, drank my Water, and got enough sleep. Everyone is different. Even after 4 months, I still tired more easily. By around 6-8 months, I was finally back to full strength. And now, at goal weight I have a lot more energy. Amazing how dropping over 100 lbs can lighten the load on my body :-)

My advice is give yourself a break and time to heal. Make it as easy on yourself as you can.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
