Need Some And Advice--A Little Gross

Recommended Posts

I know this a little gross and I am a little embarrassed. I having hard stool and it won't come out with pain and blood. What can I do to feel some relief? I have added Fiber to my diet and I drink about 70oz of Water everyday. Has anyone done an enema for the same problem? Its been 3 days since a BM and I am 3.5 weeks post op.

This is a common problem. Keep up the liquids and regular Fiber. In the meantime, rather than an enema, try glycerine suppositories. Use as per instructions, and maybe use some KY jelly or other similar lubricant when moving your bowels.

It took ages for things to get back to normal for me, and I found this the least invasive and most manageable option until things settled down.

I had the same problem. Milk of magnesia helped with it. After about 6 weeks I never had the problem again but happened a few times right after surgery.

I take Miralax every other day. It keeps it "Flowing". I had this problem pre op, so I know it would be an issue post op.

SUNSWEET PRUNE JUICE!!! I tried Miralax, milk of magnesia and a couple of other things. They all worked but i decided to try prune juice and it made me go a lot faster than the otc stuff, plus its healthier. Give it a try, u might like it.

Well this is a problem for me too because I have had the hardest stools. Since surgery my gallbladder was removed when I had surgery and I thought that this was the cause of the hard stools. But it seems it happens a lot so I will try to eat more fiber plus maybe dink more coffee and fruit juices...

First off, don't be embarrassed to ask anything here, chances are someone here has experienced it.

It just so happens that this none is is something pretty much all of us have had to deal with.

My recommendation is Colace, I use the Sam's Club version. Two pills per day, makes it so much more bearable

I have had this problem for 8 years. I am sorry. When there is blood, it means there is a tear. And it seems most people do not understand the pain associated with it. I even had surgery to try to correct this problem 4 years ago. It didn't help. So I truly have tried most "remedies". I found Miralax worked the best for me (it worked for a month and that is the most help I ever got) keep up with the Water, and sometimes the tears take a long time to clear up. There are medicated creams so don't be afraid to ask your doc if you need help! Good luck.

Yes it is a common problem post-op, Mirilax helps but only AFTER you take it and it runs through your system.

I would try the enema, you obviously need to get some moisture down inthat area to get things moving. I would also recommend the KY-Jelly suggestion too, you should use it on the enema nozzle but pack some in after you take the enema to eas things out, else it may furhter tear you up. It's going to be icky and messy but iy should releive the immediate issue quicky.

I've had issues with it all my adult life, Mirilax works well but I recently started to eat chia seeds, 2 teaspoons in a yogurt or chocolate pudding twice a day and I have had woderfully regular movements ever since. Id does make be fart a bit more than Mirilax but seems to work me better. Available at any healthfood store.

The problem with the enema is further tearing. And that is what you want to avoid. It will take a few days to have anything oral work through your system. If it doesn't hurt coming out, do the enema. If you have pain at all, I wouldn't suggest it.

Thank yall for your help. I am going to take the enema tomorrow and give it a day to heal and get some Miralax to take...I am just trying to get used this and takes a little while to do so.

Months. But I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, so I expected difficulties. It takes some experimentation, but there are great suggestions in this thread, and one of them is sure to work. I hadn't thought of the Chia seeds - and I definitely prefer a natural solution so I'm going to try that.

You can get liquid colace....but it tastes nasty. I use cherry Milk of Magnesia when I get stopped up. It works pretty well, if slowly sometimes.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
