I'm 5 days Post Op and I had already lost 10lbs, it's pretty awesome. But the thing is I have having absolutely no problems getting liquid down. I can get 300 ml (about 10oz) of liquid down in about 10-15 minutes (And I think I might be able to drink faster, but I'm not going to over do it) with no discomfort or anything whatsoever. When my mother did the surgery she had a very difficult time getting liquids in and would feel full and discomfort easily. We both had the same surgeon. Does it have something to do with the age? (I'm 19, she's 52). I don't know. Any replies would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I was drinking rather quickly right after surgery as well. The first couple days were rough, but then by day 4 or 5 I was getting at least 4 oz in every 15 minutes instead of 1 oz. I think I could have easily done more, but also didn't want to push it. I think that's just fine and will help you reach your fluid goals, so be glad! Just be careful. ;)

Just remember everyone is different so you will do things differently, feel differently and have different reactions than your Mother. It is nice to have someone who has been through it but don't stress yourself out because some things are different than your Mother's experience. I'm sure you're doing great!!

The stomach size is also a factor, if your stomach (prior to surgery) was longer than your mothers than your sleeve will be longer and maybe able to fit a little more in than your mom. I had this question too so I went on youtube Dr. Alvarez's site and he explained and gave a diagram of why some people can have intake more food or Water after the sleeve than others. It was very helpful.

I too hav not really experienced liquid restriction. I've been able to drink at a normal rate since 3 days after surgery (didn't try before that)

you seem to be one of the lucky ones that didn't have a lot of post op swelling! you'll notice restriction when you get to solids I wouldn't worry a bit

I'm wondering if what size bougie your doc used as a guide, and is it different the the bougie they used for your Mother? To be perfectly honest, you are so lucky you can get your Water in and have less risk of dehydration. :)

As far as I know I think they used the same bougie size.

but thanks for the replies everyone! Greatly appreciated. I thought it was going to be a lot harder but I seem to be recovering fine (and thank god for that!) Thanks again everyone :D

My co worker and I had same Dr same same boughs size she's 5'7 and I'm 5'0 she had way more swelling than I had and a lot more problem getting her liquids in and also eating when she first started eating. So in theory since Shes taller than me u would think alittle bigger stomach??? I have had much less swelling and problems. I could drink real easy from the get go.she had surg 2 weeks before me. She's lost 54 and I've lost 47. So in the long run it seems to all pan out.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
