I've been lurking around the boards for about 2 months now to gather information. I attended an informational in June and went for my surgical consult, psych, and nutrition information last week. I have an upper gi, ekg, and chest xray left. The good thing is I dont have any other issues going on Healthwise.

My dr's office called today and gave me a surgery date of August 10th!!! I didnt even know i had insurance approval yet.

Has anyone else had this happen?

I had insurance approval in less than a week. It happened way faster than I thought possible.

Congratulations! I have no regrets whatsoever.

No not yet. Idk if they are going on the confidence that it will be approved or not.

They must have at least verbal approval or they wouldn't have committed to a surgery date. IMHO.

Good luck! I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia at my upper GI (had NO idea I had one or that it was the cause of my reflux problems), and my surgeon repaired it at time of surgery.

It's really no big deal if you did have one, it's easily repairable at surgery and doesn't really change recovery plans at all. I am so grateful that my awful reflux is gone!

You may want to shoot for a little bit longer recovery time then you can go back earlier if you are ready early. I am in Human Resources and will tell you that the managers really appreciate as much warning as possible. Having someone out longer than you thought is a real burden, but having someone come back sooner is a good thing. If you work for an employer that has 50 or more employees, you can apply for FMLA to cover your time away from work. If you have Short Term Disability, time off for the surgery (less any waiting period) would be paid time off.

Good Luck!

You're right. I may just extend it to 2 weeks

Texarkolina is right. I thought there was no way I would need two weeks off but thought I'd go ahead and put it in just in case (I also work in HR and it's much easier to return early then have to go back and extend more time). It turned out I needed the two weeks. Even though I had almost no pain or discomfort, I was fatigued and it took that time to work out the kinks with the post op diet.

Hi Charmichelle. Welcome to the boards. I want to wish you the best of luck in your upcoming surgery. I am scheduled for the 6th so I can vouch for how fast the days are flying. There is an August forum where you can meet tons of August sleevers waiting for their date .http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/38113-august-sleevers-where-yas-at/

Stop by and introduce yourself. There is a list that FutureSkinnyPants is trying to keep updated with every ones surgery date for August so you could possibly meet others that are the same day as you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
