I'm bouncing between about 3 pounds to for about 2 weeks now. I think I'm gonna start walking more. I really need a fill. I have NO restriction.

Wow, I really hit those post-op blues you guys were talking about. I cried last night for 3 hours straight over nothing. LOL. Felt good, though, I just let it all out.

Hi everyone. I would like to lose 10lb by October 1, I had a fill on Sept. 1

2cc in a 10cc band. It went well. I can feel a difference. Some people say that it will take up to a week or two after your fill to feel a change.

Okay---very weird question---does anyone have really bad breath since surgery? My husband--so sweetly (not!)--said I have had the worst breath since I've come back from having the band. I have only been on liquids since, so I know it is nothing I am eating. I have never suffered from halitosis before--so just wondering. Anyone else having this? Or am I the only 'lucky' one?

Shoot! I was working on a post and accidentally closed the window. Dang, I hate that.. LOL.

I feel like I have barely touched the surface of the information that is available. I found an interesting post that I felt like I should share with you ladies and gents. I found it very helpful and full of information that I hadn't yet thougth about....

Hi All!

I'm new to this forum only because I just happened to stumble upon it. I like what I've seen so far!!

Can I join in on the ABC chat. I was banded by Dr. Rumbaut in Mexico on 8/8/06.

I have great days and okay days. I'm down 20 pounds so far and ready for my fill.

Trizzy,

I've noticed that I have horrible breath since I've been banded. I brush my teeth like 8 times a day now! It drives me crazy. It's even worse if I'm taking pain med.... I breathe fire!

Kate--thank God I am not alone!! I have been brushing my teeth 3+ times a day, and I only used to do it once a day! Isn't that weird? I wonder what causes it? Oh well, my little girl told me I should talk to her with my mouth closed from now on--lol---so I guess that's one way to solve it!:speechles

Anyone out there going to get a fill with Doc Martinez around Fri. Oct. 20th-Sat. 21st? I am thinking of scheduling a fill then, and was wondering if anyone would like to meet up, share a taxi, etc..(if you don't mind my bad breath!):couch2: .Either PM me or write in here, hope to hear soon because I want to schedule it by Monday!

Meme, I was wondering about that. I'll have had my first fill a week Friday. Sometimes I feel restricted, sometimes I don't. I was wondering if I needed more restriction. But maybe I should wait a week or so to see what happens. :couch2:

trizzy, you're probably in ketosis, which gives you extremely nasty breath. I highly suggest Crest mouth wash! :couch2: I was using it almost every time I went to the bathroom for 2 weeks after surgery.

Okay---very weird question---does anyone have really bad breath since surgery?

Yes! I have found brushing my tongue seems to help. There is some normal scrping of the tongue that happens when you eat real food. And with all these liquids we just get more and more layers of gunk. That, and probably ketosis. Although I feel like I am drinking tons of carbs so I don't know.

I knew it was bad when my husband was DEMANDING I find the mints in the bottom of my purse. I said "geez, what is the problem" and he said "You're killing me! Have a mint!"

I'm scheduled for 9/12 - next week - yikes! I am the type that needs to know everything before I make a decision and I'm so nervous about next week because I really have no idea how my body is going to react to the band. I've been practicing the small bites, chewing allot thing and it seems like I chew just fine - but is it just as much of a problem to swallow allot of something chewed well as it is to swallow a little of something not chewed enough?

I was told during my pre-op diet, that while on the liquid diet you could possibly have bad breath. If I had a guess, I would say it is due to the lack of chewing which helps get rid of some of the (odor causing) bacteria as you chew. Just my thought!

HopeW don't worry! You will do fine! The band is designed to work no matter what size or shape you are. You won't starve -- in fact, the worse case scenario is that you have no restriction until your first fill. I was really worried, too. But it is no big deal! Granted, I'm only a week out, but I feel great about the decsion. YOu will experience lots of gurgles and noisiness in the belly but nothing scary. You will feel a little sore around the port area but digestively, you shouldn't feel any pain. You will have burpy sensations or a little pressure when you reach your limit with liquids. I can't say about the chewing yet since I haven't had any solids. But check out the forums a little more and you'll find more answers from longer-term bandsters.

Good Luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
