Good luck Boston Chic and Lorna. You'll do great! These last couple days will really fly by (I know it doesn't seem it, but they will). Check in after your surgery and update us when you feel up to it.

I'm joining LapBand Land this Monday July 23 at 12Noon. My surgery will be following Bostonchic's at Lahey Medical Center with Dr. Nepomnayshy.

Its such a weird feeling knowing that I have been working for this day for so long and now it is finally here. I'm not sure what to think...my emotions go from elated to scared to death. Tomorrow my plan is to keep myself so busy I won't have time to think about it.

Hi Everyone,

I was banded today at Lahey Cinic in Burlington, MA and my experience has been teriffic. Very little pain and I've been up walking around several tmes. The only real pain I have is in my left shoulder...and it is true that walking is the best remedy.

Bostonchic is in the room across from me and she is doing amazing. It is so nice to have someone to experience this with.

So glad you had a great experience. Mine could have been better, but maybe because it wasn't everyone else's will be ! I was basically okay but had a much shorter stay than usual, they had no bed on the floor for me! Surgery at 7pm, discharged by 9am. not my choice!!! the Dr. was very upset at how I was treated. (at Lahey) But, my self determination kicked in and I was better for it! anyway, :welcomeB: to B-land!

Hey everyone!

Ok, well it is official, I am banded! I just got home from the hospital today! I connected with Gingersnap and formed a buddy system with her. Thank GOD she was there with me! We were able to encourage each other. I would highy reccomend doing the same thing. I truly feel I have soul sister in this process. We were able to go walking up and down the halls together. We finally found what room Andrea was in. Andrea, is another woman I met in the process. We then started roaming the hallways as the three musketeers.

I feel great that I have taken this step. The medicine is a bit strong, but truth is, I need it right now. I hope to get off the drugs as soon as I can but I am not going to rush it. I look forward to feeling normal again. LOL Hope you all have a great day!

Ok, today is day 3 w/ the band. I am starting to take myself off the medication. It is way too strong for me. I have cut the dosage in half and supplemented with Tylenol, so that I can at least be coherent. I feel ok. I am beginning to have an appetite. broth never tasted so good! What I am finding the hardest part is actually sitting or getting up. Same goes for when I lay down. there is a very short distance that my abs are screaming. I am going to go walking to the end of the street and back. The gas is really starting to flow in my body so the more walking I do the better. I just wanted to check in. I feel ok...definitely in some discomfort though. argh!:car:

I eat like a skinny person now, its hard to wrap my mind around the fact that I may be a normal BMI after all. It is truly great when the feeling kicks in. It is just around the corner for you guys!!!!

Hi All!

I am so glad that both Lahey surgeries went well. Unfortunately I don't have the same to report! Dr. jones found so many adhesions from previous surgeries that he was forced to separate colon from fat layer and intestines from each other. He couldn't get to the hiatal hernia and consulted an entire team about placing the lap band after PERFORATING a small intestine. The surgery on the 23rd took 5 hours.

If an infection develops, there will be more surgery and the band will be removed.

I just arrived home today. It's good to be here. Looks like I'm in the clear right now.

I need your support.

Dear Maureen (Metalband),

I am feeling much stronger now , seven days home and twelve days post op. Saw Dr. Jones on Wednesday--lab tests indicate that I am still harboring an infection. On another 10 days of antibiodics. Unless I can clear infection, band will have to come out. Yikes!!!

Otherwise, I'm doing okay, feeling stronger and comsuming liquids with ease. I return to Dr. Jones on August 15.

I wish the other two Jul33 bandsters ther best> How's it going?

Lorna

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
