Do Sleevers Absorb Alcohol Faster?

Recommended Posts

My hubby has a bypass. Half a glass of wine, and he is drunk. Is this true for sleeves as well?

Oh yes! I am a good time after a small little bottle of wine...if I can even manage to get that down. I actually like that I can't drink very much. It's empty calories that I don't need!

This came up at our last meeting here in town. You will get buzzed faster but the effect will pass faster too.

They say it is a yoyo you don't want to make a habit of.

Yes, yes I do. LOL

That being said, I don't want to go down that road, but the few times I drank I had a really good time for very cheap. LOLOLOLOL

I have found that I can't drink because it burns too bad. And I loved beer, cocktails, not so much wine unless it was Lambrusco..so I have given up alcohol all together just because I can't tolerate the burn.

At times I can have three drinks without incident (vodka cran with a splash of club) other days it upsets my stomach and I get popped pretty fast.

I have always been a drinker - I will continue to drink - but just not as much as before. What ever I am doing works for me I am six months out and down 70lbs - again it is what you discover works for you may not work for anyone else.

Enjoy the ride

For me it does I drink one drink of alcohol not beer and I'm wasted I've found myself a few times with my head in the toilet from two drinks. A dame shame if you ask me because I like to party.

Another yes. Quick to buzz, quick to sober up. I don't ever have more than two drinks while out these days. More often one is plenty sufficient and will hold me over all night if I sip.

I hate the taste of beer since surgery, though. I used to love it. Now I'm all for those fruity mixed drinks I used to mock.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
